If interested, i can be getting it for around $600. Its a 880w system with dvd compatible. Do you think its worth getting? It would be used for my room, which is not all that big. Just hoping to get suggestions if theres any other systems that are better for use.

Hi. The quality of Sony home theater systems are not as good as some of the other brands But,really for $600 you can have a much better system in terms of audio and video quality by buying separate components. You don't have to get them all at once but one piece at a time. This may not suiet you if you are in a hurry to get it all at once ,but my way will give you better sound and video in the long run. The secret to getting a decent home cinema is to start at the Source (DVD Player CD Player VCR Satellite et. )The quality of this first component will define the quality of the sound you hear from your speakers. From the Source the signal (which is very small) travels to your Receiver where it is amplified by the Pre-Amp section .After it leaves the Pre-Amp it arrives at the Power Amps where it is amplified enough to drive your loudspeakers The important rule is that the signal can never be improved within the chain of components once it has started. It can only be maintained or degraded.Audio and Video are a damage control job.If we don't get quality information from the Source, the Pre-Amp,Power Amps and Speakers cannot improve the signal. The choice of a DVD Player is a bit up in the air at the moment because of the ongoing war between the two high definition formats. (Blu-Ray,and HD DVD.) So you can buy an inexpensive normal DVD Player that plays ordinary dvd's,.or a Blu-Ray Player or a HD DVD Player,or a Player with the two new formats in the one machine.

The Onkyo TX-SR505 is available for $299 (rec. ret. price.)and has HDMI capability with plenty of features and enough power (75 watts/channel) for most speakers.Have a look at the link bellow.

I googled it. It sells for around $600. If you are buying it off someone, just buy a new one. It looks like an ok system, but for around the same amount you could pick your components seperately, and get a system that works best for the space. 5.1 is kind of outdated by now, and this system leaves you no room to upgrade.
