While all the other ideas are great ways to learn a language, they work better when supplementing a good book and grammar. I suggest you buy one of those methods to teach yourself German. There are many titles available and only you can determine which is best for you depending on your goals. How well do you want to learn the language? Do you just want to be able to speak? If that's the case, Pimsleur can be a good choice as it does not include a textbook. You can take a look at your local bookstore or read the reviews at Amazon to make sure you get what you're looking for. And answering your question about Rosetta Stone... I'd stay away from it. It's very pricey and all you can learn from it is some words and simple sentences. If you're trying to make some sentences of your own, I don't think that would be very helpful.

German music. I studied German for 5 years and didn't feel comfortable with making up sentences until I started listening to German music. I translated words I didn't know and learned a lot of useful everyday vocab that I'd overlooked. I memorized sentences in song lyrics without trying, and then I could them recall later to copy their structure and grammar. I learned as much German in 3 months as I had in the previous 5 years. Taking a trip to Germany a while later helped me have confidence. I saw how much I really did know!

Just laugh - I´d like to recommend you to buy a book for children, and German comics, too. That should be easy on the web. Then read until you know all the sentences and idioms by heart. The fresh and simple everyday language in books like these is the best that can happen to you. Have fun with your hobby!

Watch German TV over satellite. It helps a lot! If you are not very advanced, the idea with the comics is a very good one. You could also try reading magazines.

Wo Sind Die von? Wo wohnen Sie? One good way is to immerse yourself in German culture. Go to Germany, Austria, or Switzerland and go only where German is spoken. This forces you to use parts of your brain and to expand your vocabulary. If that is not economically feasible, go to an online voice chat that is held in German. Like the old commercial said, "Try it, you'll like it."
