I know your question is joking/rhetorical, but I would actually agree that many politicians are inhabited by spirits. Because they rule this world, they have (part of) the Spirit of this World - The Spirit of the air, the spirit of the Age, the spirit of the Antichrist.
He that would be first, shall be last. Since they put themselves as first, it's scary to think they will probably end up last. Spiritually, they are in grave danger, many of them.
