Hello 2some,
yes we have tv licences in Ireland, it will cost you 158 euro's and for the quality of the tv programmes on terrestrial television, it is a major rip-off, even if you can get Sky you will still have to pay for the Irish Television Channels, So enjoy the shows if you can ignore thinking of what it costs. there really is only one effective way of not having to pay this outrageous charge, get a portable DVD player and just play the DVD's on it, any of your friends with a computer or a DVD recorder will record your favourite Television shows for you, and there is no licence required for that...Ther are other ways of not having to buy a tv licence, but the only legal way is to sell your Television, and have the antenna taken off your roof-top...Doh!!~~~...Tony M

i might have agreed with you interior the previous, i consistently theory it replace right into a rip off figuring out to purchase them crap RTE channels. although at present i did a splash diagnosis into the origins and cultural consequences of RTE on Irish society and that i discovered a brilliant form of activity stuff. And however i nevertheless do understand why maximum folk will ***** approximately it, i do now think of that's justified. you spot the license value would not in simple terms 'pay' for RTE1, RTE2 and TG4 (to an quantity), even though it is going lots extra. It funds RTE radio of direction, Eurovision, RTE Orchestra, yet extra importantly, RTE is a factor of Irish identity and Irish lifestyle, imaging how diverse eire may be if we by no skill had the late late coach as an occasion, or the Riordans, the irish language might virtually be ineffective (Radio na Gaelteacht), and we would straightforward be a hybrid of British-American lifestyle. Now thats all and strong you need to assert, it has executed us properly interior the previous, yet those days there isn't any want for a public broadcaster, in line with hazard? yet RTE is an business enterprise in irish society and our lifestyle, it in simple terms cant exist without public funds. i think of it may be a disgrace if we've been to desperate as a human beings to no longer pay the value anymore and lose RTE. (as properly, e may be left with TV3 for christ sake!)

Yes, you need to buy a television licence in the Republic, you can do it in your local post office, it costs about €150. Not having one can result in a fine, court appearance or even prison spell.

Its not cheap.Dont get one until you have lived here a few years, and only then when hounded to get one.In England the BBC channells are not interupted by continuous advertising...more money for RTE that waste all the money they get.

158. If you dont have a TV but have an antenna on your roof to receive you still have to get on. It covers the ability to receive signals not just the tv

When I lived in Dublin once a guy came to my door enquiring after a TV licence,,He caught me somewhat by surprise ..So I says I ahhh don't have a TV ,,So he says then what is that I am looking at so i stepped out to where he was and lo and behold he is able to see my TV through the window where he is standing,,So I says OH that is my downstairs neighbour and she is out at the mo...With the TV on he says? oh yes I says she always leaves it on,,OK he says heres a summons for her which you can give her or else she has 3 days to get a licence,,So do you live upstairs he says,,I do says I,,So you'll be the one stealing the pipe then says he as he points up to a crudely connected mains cable under my eaves,,Right says I ,,,cheerio says he.
