My younger sister delt with cutting for years. It got to a point where she was cutting her self more than once or twice a day. I didnt know what I could do to help her but this question actually makes sence. People cut to release pain, which is something that she told me over and over agian when I would ask her about her cutting. I think that A great way to release the pain is running. I HATE running but i know that there are times when I need to clear my head and the best way I can do it is running. My sister found that when she became an owner of a three legged dog that soemthing now depended on her. Owning something that depends on you and loves you unconditionally is a great feeling. But it might not be running or owning a pet that helps you. Its up to you what you do but I would suggest that you try a few different things if exercising or owning a pet isnt your thing. Feel free to e-mail me if you would like her e-mail address to see what made her stop.

Keeping a journal and writing is helpful when you are triggered. Listen to loud music, call a friend, get out of the house and go for a brisk walk, go to a movie, shop, take the dog out for a walk. Go to the park and read. Go for a bike ride, take a bath, practice relaxation techniques.

Try EFT (www.emofree.com), Quantum Touch therapy, Reiki, Yoga, Bach Flowers, Aromatherapy, deep breathing, singing....and simple exercise. There are so many ways of releasing. Email me if needed. Blessings to you. Stay away from that cutting.

i know how you feel, i havent done it in about two weeks, but an alternative to cutting, is by holding an ice cube in your hand. if it helps, you could also take a red marker and draw where you usually cut. i dont know if i helped any, but those are some alternatives.

Do you have a journal? I had a friend who was a cutter and it was very helpful for her to write in a journal. She doesn't cut anymore.

my shrink used to say hold two ice cubes in your hand until the urge to cut goes away. she also suggested standing on your tip-toes. hope that helps.

I am a recovering cutter too, I find that writing really helps when I want to cut. It also helps to talk to someone if you can, you're welcome to message me if no one is available and you need to talk.
Good luck!

running is a good way to relive yourself of pain. i've never done anything like cutting, i would never mutilate my body but i'm not like you, we're different. try running, it might work for you.

you can draw pictures. Something that helps me is something simple-scribbling with a pen on some paper-it helps alot.
