I have an 1800 sqft manufactured home that I purchased new about 5 yrs ago. I have two boys and we live on a ranch so I ripped the carpet out and put down a pine floor. I'm not happy with the pine floor as I want to get away from the country look and get something more modern looking. I like tile but that sounds expensive. Any help would be appreciated!

you can put a no wax floor down for very little money and get the tile look. start with congolium- armstrong-owens/corning. you can lay it right over your pine.

Keep an eye out for sales at places like Lowes or Home Depot! They put the tile on clearance or just on sale all the time. Depending on how much you need it wouldn't be that expensive. If you have a Big Lots near you they also carry it and the price was VERY reasonable. I have friends and family who have both installed their own tile without any problems and with very little expense. Both loved the results. In the meantime maybe you could find some throw rugs or area rugs to add a bit of flair to the rooms.

You would be shocked and amazed what they are doing with interlocking tiles (like a Pergo floor) these days. I got these interlocking linoleum tiles that looked like 18-inch terra cotta tiles for my kitchen to cover a very shoddy sheet linoleum installation. The tiles had an image of grout around the terra cotta and it was shaded, so that it actually looked like a terra cotta tile floor. But, it had the convenience of linoleum.

The installers first taped a 1/16-inch sheet of cushioning material down on the existing floor. Then, they installed the flooring over that and trimmed it off with 1/4-round oak trim as a baseboard. Installed, it came out to about $3 a square foot.

The cushioning material made the floor easy to walk on for a long time without getting tired (a real tile floor is hard to walk on after awhile). And, it looked so realistic that a plumber friend of mine who does tile work could not tell it wasn't real tile until I pointed out the faint junction lines between the tiles.

i would go with tile. It is not that expensive at the home depot or lowes. I'm a tile layer and they made really cheap to get the materials yourself and have someone install it for you or you can do it yourself. It's pretty simple. don't let it intimidate you

The easiest thing would be some large rugs in a modern design or pattern. I also live on a ranch and wall to wall is imposable to keep clean
