I have heard that in the USAF your hair has to be one color.
My hair is black on bottom and blond on top.
Will they make me dye it before basic training?

You can dye it to one of those colors, or even another (must be a natural tone)....but the first thing that is done in basic is a hair cut.

every bit of hair goes.

Edit- Okay, you're a woman. Like I said above, you will need to dye your hair to either brown, blonde, burgandy red (or some type of natural tone red) or black. If you have highlights, they will have to be close to your naturl hair color (or of the dye you choose to use). Your best choice is to just re-dye your hair to your NATURAL color so your roots don't show during basic. That's tacky....even if you will look the same as every other gal there.

The USAF has high tip-top standards, and does not allowed multi-colored off natural hair.

[ your hair will also be cut to roughly shoulder length too...so don't bother getting it styled before you go in ]

Your hair must be one color and it must be a natural color and they can require you to cut it. Your hair must be above your collar, either from the way it is cut or by pinning it up, pulling it back, etc. You can not have long hair hanging loose. The hair, when pulled back, must allow for the proper fit of all safety gear, including the gas masks and chem gear you will have to use during basic. You must also be able to wear the uniform head gear (uniform hats) in the proper way.. The pinned back style must look professional and while you are in basic, you will need to be able to do it in less than five minutes. If the hair , even pulled and pinned up, is so much that your gear will not fit correctly, you will have to cut it. Religous convictions generally do not exempt you from this regulation as it is for your own safety.Long hair coming loose around a jet engine or in a medical setting are safety issues and the military will not allow for the risk. My advice would be to cut the black out..it will be healthier for the hair than trying to dye it. No matter what, unless you want it done for you when you report to basic, do it now. Get a simple, easy to wash, dry and pull back style...nothing too trendy or funky as you may end up with another cut if it doesn't meet regulations.

Your hair should be neatly arranged to present a conservative feminine appearance. Hairstyles that prevent the proper wearing of the service cap are not appropriate.

Barrettes, ribbons and other ornaments except for inconspicuous combs and pins will not be worn in the hair when in uniform...

Hair in the back may touch, but not fall below the bottom edge of the collar.

In my opinion, having hair that is two colors is not conservative. Better to go with your natural color... It will save you trouble while you're in basic...

Your hair will have to be one color. If you are a guy you really have nothing to worry about since you won't have any hair shortly after you arrive at Lackland. As for Females, you will have your hair cut to regs and your recruiter should have already recommended you dye your hair if you ship soon.

Not only does it have to be one colour it must be a NATURAL colour. You will be respresenting the USAF, this is the military not a rock concert (would be cool if it was though). They will cut it to shoulder length in basic.

Good Luck!

My hair is presently my organic ash brown (which it maintains to be all 365 days around, yet interior the summertime I do get some blondish spots), with some dark blue and green streaks, and my eyes are hazel.

Good lord where did you hear that? Just don't dye it purple. They will cut it to regs and that will be that.

no faddish hairstyles whatsoever. including coloring. you will need to choose which color you want to be. (hint: go natural, since you will not have time to maintain it while in training).
