who mandate that the little Nextel patch on Jeff Burton and Ryan Newman's driver suits be black and white?
I read something about it last year, but whose bright idea was it to decided the color?

I think the black and white is suppost to be less noticeable, cuz yellow screams "look at me" Sounds like it was a Nascar thing. Don't want to upset the Nextel ppl. by letting the driver show more of their own sponsors. Like Kevin and his huge shell did to Sunoco.

I think you're right 24_gordon_24!
So, it's the team's sponsor.

Hi Marty,

I am hoping you can explain why the Nextel patch on Ryan Newman's drivers suit is different in the fact that it is white on black rather than the normal yellow on black.

Lee

Newman's sponsor, Alltel, is a rival cellular service provider, Lee. So while he and Jeff Burton (Cingular) are required to have the Nextel Cup Series logo on their driver suits like everyone else, they're granted permission to use a less conspicuous color-scheme in doing so.

The Nextel Cup logos on their driver uniforms are black and white because their teams are sponsored by rival companies, but they are required to be there. Therefore they want the Nextel Cup series logo to be subtle and less noticable. They want people to focus on the Alltel and AT&T logos.

I'm sure it was the sponsor that mandated it. Maybe to make it show up a little better or for some other reason. Most of the suits, car schemes and patches are done at the sponsors request.
