The Bible doesn't mention the word Trinity, but mentions there is one God and the divine nature of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Is it possible that the true nature of God is unfathomable, and the Trinity is our attempt to visualize an infinite God in a three dimensional universe?

The word trinity isnt in the Bible no. But the Bible is what teaches the doctrine of the trinity to begin with. Its not something we conjured in a theology seminar.

We as humans and believers are capable of having a knowledge of the trinity but do any of us fully know and understand God having 1 essence yet be 3 in person? No. The trinity is a complex doctrine much like salvation that the Bible describes in great detail yet we will never fully understand in this life.

The Trinity is the God of the historical Christian faith. There is no proof text for it in the Bible. However, Christians believe that the God of the Bible is Tri-une. It is what separates them from both polytheists and monotheists.

The doctrine was developed early in Church history when the church wrestled with the idea that there is one God and that that the Father, the Son, and the Spirit are distinct and yet each fully God that is present in the bible.

It is not only possible but true that God is unfathomable. However, the call of the Christian is not understanding, it is belief. We don't have to understand the Trinity. However, we must believe it, or we are not Christian in any distinct way.

This is why there are so many names listed for Him in the Bible.. Each describes a different facet of His nature.. Still the Bible is clear there is one God yet the Father is God, the Son is God and the Holy Spirit is also God.. Like I said many time on answers it all has to be true if any of it is. The trinity explains how both concepts are the truth.. Jim

You are right the word trinity is not mentioned in the bible. I like to say this what GOd has chosen to reveal about his nature is. And if you look into the attributes of God, thins only ascribed to him you will see that for all of them Jesus and the holy spirit are given these things as well. FOr example the creation of the World. John 1 Jesus is the creator, gen 1:1 God is. And Gen 2:2. Forgiveness is another good example. Jesus forgave sins And the Jews of that time where upset because only God could do such a thing.

You are right trinity is our way of describing what God has chosen to reveal to us about his nature. His exact nature cant be know to us for we would have to know everything to know.
We cannot think of pluality in unity because we know of nothing like it. But if GOd says he is and has revealed this through scripture then we must take him at his word.

A God big enough for our minds is not big enough for our needs. I have been studying the trinity for a long time now and have come to understand how true it is, THere are things like morality that can only be explained if GOd is one but plurality. How can a all knowing GOd know what it is like to love outwardly if before all things where created it was only him. But if he is 3 persons in one he can understand love in an outwardly manner because the father can love the son and the spirit and feel how they feel for him in an instant. Outwardly love inside a single being.

Great Question I love ones like this thank you and GOd bless.

the word trinity is just a word. it is used to explain what exactly what you just said, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. the true explination of the Trinity doesn't say that there are three gods, Just ONE God in three divine, Holy forms. I hate to focus too much on the Trinity because it causes more confusion than anything else in the Bible...

I am no longer religious, but my own examinations have led me to believe that the Trinity concept is nonsense, as is much of the dogma taught in churches. What I don't understand is why people are so attached to this idea. No one is any closer to understanding God through it, and we constantly see people complaining about how this group or that group is teaching false ideas about Christianity... so why not this one?

As someone else already said, the Trinity leads to fatal flaws within the scriptures. I'm inclined to say that the Bible is already fatally flawed, but this one issue certainly spells the death of logical thought. Just because this 'God' concept is infinite and therefore unfathomable does not mean it is allowed to contradict itself or other existing evidence. As soon as we say that A does not equal A or that there is no point in trying to THINK about something, we are in big trouble.

Yes, there are people who believe it even after their studies, but I tend to think that most of these individuals approach the text with bias from the beginning, thus skewing their own results. Others who do not take the time to examine what they claim to believe will simply rely on these individuals to persist in their blindness.

And might I add that there is no point in including concepts in the Bible that no one will hope to understand? I strongly encourage Christians to use their heads...

You are correct, its a human man made interpretation of what God is supposed to be. But strangely enough it does not coincide with any of the Bible at all, because just like you said, the trinity is note even mentioned in it.

Interesting to see the Christian version of the trinity. In my faith three is a pretty important number. We celebrate the 3 aspects of the goddess, Mother, Maiden, and Crone. We also believe in the threefold law, which states that whatever one puts into the Universe, they recieve back 3 times. So if you are putting love into the Universes, you get 3 times it back, and vise versa.
