ok so i have a few questions for someone in the military thats done this before.

my message is Urgent and Vital and was just sent out alittle over an hour ago and i have 10 days to get my husband home before i go into Surgery and Not a soul atm to watch our 26 month old. (all trusted neighbors vacation, ombudmans out of town, all navy wives are booked with stuff, all my family and friends are like 10 states away.) so the hospital said if i cant get him home children services will take my daughter b/c she cannot go with me for my C-section surgery.,

so anyway message has been sent whats the next step?
whom am i waiting on his command of course but will they call me? how do i know if they received the message and how will i know if hes on his way? and how long does it usually take to hear something?

please try to answer as best as possible.

Thank You

I was overseas when I received a Red Cross message... It only took about 6 hours for all the paperwork to filter down to me, and for me to find out what happened... The unit is supposed to start the leave paperwork once they receive the Red Cross message... So patience is the key...

It took less than 3 hours for them to get my leave paperwork done, get my plane tickets, and get me to the airport... Then of course it was a long flight from Korea to Michigan....

It took about 24-36 hours to get me home...

Your Welcome, and good luck....

Red Cross Military Emergency

I retired from the Navy in 96. I am a Red Cross volunteer. Your husbands CO will receive the message within 24 hours. He will then assess how critical your husband is to the mission as to he can live without his skills. If he can (shouldn't be a problem), the CO will contact your husband and tell him to pack a bag and get ready to depart on emergency leave at the next port of call.

I cannot tell you how quickly this will occur because I don't know the current assignment and we really shouldn't discuss it here. (OPSEC)

You can find a better forum for your questions at www.military.com This site is all about the military and there is a spouses forum where you can find an online support group.

Good luck!

It sounds like you are close to some Navy port. Check and see if there is a chapter of the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society near you. They may be able to get help with services regarding the care of your daughter.
You should receive some confirmation from the Red Cross that their national chapter has confirmed receipt of your e-gram aboard his ship.
