Hello ladies! I'm getting married in 1 month and 24 days at 7pm...I just wanted some opinions on send off items (ie bubbles)...It will be dark when we leave, so I want them to be able to be seen...Any ideas besides bubbles, rice, butterflies, or sparklers? BTW, I was going to do sparklers but with the many children that will be there, I chose to not put everyone at risk...Thanks for all your answer in advance!! -Emi

Use rose petals. They're dark, they won't hurt when they're thrown at you and they will look beautiful when falling. Also, you can ask the florist to save the petals for the week and they will give them to you for free.

Sorry, saw some of the posts and I have to chime in. People are saying that the new sparklers are perfectly safe, but they're NOT. My son has a four inch scar from second and third degree burns on his shoulder from a piece of paper that floated over from someone else's sparkler 10-12 feet away on the 4th of July six years ago (when he was 2). His shirt caught fire and I had to put it out. Thank you for realizing that this would be risky and not considering it.
Oriental Trading (www.orientaltrading.com) has those fiber optic things that I used to get from the Ice Capades. They call them galaxy wands. You could do a mix and have the adults hold candles and give those to the kids so they can participate too.

I saw the bonnet of a car catch fire one, due to sparklers. The groomsmen had decorated the car with shaving cream and it ignited when a sparkler landed on the bonnet (sorry, hood to anyone not understanding)
I am trying to think of something that glows in the dark but I just cant.....sorry. Can you get helium balloons that glow in the dark? They would look kind of cool getting let off into the night sky

Actually now many sparklers are no longer the metal ones that can burn children. You could also get some glow sticks, they come in a few assorted colors. You could use those for the children and sparklers for the adults.

Glow sticks!!!
You can hand out glow necklaces and bracelets at the reception to get the party mood going and then hand out the sticks to wave as you leave. Perhaps even mix up the colors for a really fun effect.
Same as the sparklers but without the danger to the kiddies :)

What about glow sticks? The problem with them is they are usually a sort of putrid green, but some are purpleish.
If you are careful, you can do sparklers. Kids know they're hot, and each child should have a parent supervising anyway. Just don't hand them out until ready for use.

Maybe the adults could do sparklers and the kids could use glow sticks, the ones that you crack in half and they start to glow. You can get them in bulk at www.orientaltrading.com. Best wishes!

now i'm drawing a brain fart as to what they are called... the lumaniers? the bags or tin candle holders that hold candles.
you light pathways with them
like in the movie bad santa, you put a lil sand in the bottom so they don't fall over,
images are cut in to them
