OK by unconventional I mean the lady asking her man. Neither of us are conventional or into conformity, the problem is I'm scared! I would like to get some suggestions from both men and women on how to make this a special day!

Do something that you like doing together. If you like being outdoors maybe carve on a tree "will", walk a bit further next ree "you", "marry" "me" ect. If you like dining out maybe talk to the restaurant and have the message at the bottom of his plate, when he finishes eating he can read it (works with pizza boxes too). Maybe lay a trail of roses (or something that he likes and will follow) to you waiting at the end of them with a romantic dinner, picnic, cute little outfit. then just ask him! Just make sure what you do will be fun and memorable for both of you.

My family is all into big proposals. My cousin was proposed to at homecoming on the scoreboard. My other cousin proposed to his wife when they were all at the lake with friends. All the boats were tied together and a plane flew over with a banner "will you marry me". Lets see, my friend proposed while they were out hiking on the Blue Ridge Parkway--something they loved to do. I'm not into the whole baking it into a cake or dropping it into the glass of champagne b/c it makes the ring sticky. My sister was proposed to with a gigantic stuffed animal. They were in NYC, came back to the hotel and there was a giant stuffed dog from FAO Schwartz with the ring on his collar. (Though I dont know that would be good for a man)

What does he really love to do? I'd plan a special day of stuff he loves to do. For one of my guy friends that would have to involve football. I've heard of a girl tying a ring to a beer in the cooler, whenever she was ready she pulled out it, handed him the beer, and proposed. New Years Eve is always rather romantic. For some other guys, sports aren't there thing but Star Wars is. I bet a proposal at a Star Wars convention would be unique. My husband is really into computers and technology, though I doubt he'd want to be proposed to like that. A photographer friend proposed to his life partner by a row of pictures. He had the best pictures--the two of them, great shots of his partner, romantic scenes, a diamond ring and finally a picture of him on one knee. He hung each up in his dark room and proposed at the end.

For my husband and I, one thing we really enjoy doing is whitewater rafting. My husband proposed to me after a whole day of rafting, and a nice dinner that night.

Just plan a day of stuff devoted to him and his favorite things. Is he the type to appreciate a romantic gesture or more a casual whatever you normally do together on Sat night? Would a public idea (like a scoreboard, a kareoke bar) be sweet to him or embarrassing? When the time is right, you'll just know.

well if you want into conventional stuff, then do it some where crazy, my friend was proposed to one night while we were all out at the water shed (a spot in our town where this huge bridge releases floor water ever so often) well we were all out driving on the bluffs and her boyfriend and some of his friends had come down early and spray painted will you marry me on the other side of the bluffs, it was really special, and really dumb they could have been arrested if the were caught.
