I usually eat soup and have never washed a dog's face with it.
I use a mild puppy shampoo for the face, and use a washcloth so I can control where it goes.

Put the soap on your finger and then rub it around the dogs eyes and snout the when you go to rinse his/her face cover their face so that the dog will close his eyes then rinse. Even if you get a little bit of soap in the eyes it shouldnt harm the dogs eyes if you use dog shampoo.

Try using a baby shampoo. Its tearless so if it does get in its eyes is shouldn't burn. Just don't go overboard on the soap. It was a good suggestion to dilute the soap before washing!

Dont use soap. Just use a wet rag or wash cloth and gently clean their face.

You really don't need to wash his face, but when you do, use a rag or sponge so you can get in tight corners without getting product in his eyes.
