Do some Saints have better access to the throne of grace then others?

This is probably not the answer you want to hear, but the truth is we may never know how or why our prayers are answered. For instance, you might pray to Saint Joseph for aid, but if 20 of your friends were also praying for you (and you didn't know it), maybe it was their 20 prayers that helped more than Saint Joseph did.

Or maybe it's just because devotion to certain saints has been encouraged by the Church more than others. For example, Mary and Joseph are prominent saints - much has been written and said and devotion has always been promoted. But many thousands of other saints simply aren't known.

Sometimes, though, the timing is such that you KNOW a certain saint did help you. After many months of sending books and have long talks, I started a 9-day St. Joseph novena for my fiance. On the 9th day he called and said he wanted to become a Catholic. This was after YEARS of wrestling with the faith issue.

The Church tells us that some saints are "closer" to God such as His mother and father and this certainly makes sense. There is a hierarchy in Heaven.

Saints? No one can answer a prayer except God.
THe whole tradition of praying to saints, is without scriptural precedent.

The saints cannot answer prayers. The saints ( those people that truly follow Jesus Christ ) can pray, and intercede on one's behalf, given that they are alive, and capable of praying. Dead saints can do nothing, just as Mary can do nothing, being dead, they know nothing, and await the resurrection of the faithful believers in Christ. ( Don't tell the Catholics, it would devastate them.)
