I'm headed to NYC for my step-grandpas funeral, then staying for a couple of days during the time where they "sit shiva"
I know no make-up and they cover the mirrors, but that's about it? can you fill me in on any ettiquite?

The first answer was, actually, correct. During the shiva period (the first seven days), it is traditional to serve food, and especially round food (signifying life and renewal). The funeral service is probably not unlike others you may have been to or heard about, except that: 1) the casket will be closed; 2) the casket will most likely be quite plain; and 3) there will be Hebrew prayers during the service.
