With a child being born child care is high these days and I would like to know what my chances are of getting food stamps in south Alabama.

Thank everyone for any advice you can give me.

I received medicaid and WIC before I was married but I was only working part time taking home about 12,000 a year. Now I am married but will stop working for about 6 months when the baby is born.

I just did the FNS food stamp screening tool and put in your info. It says that a family of 3 with the $26,000 would probably not be eligible for food stamps. I didn't even put in if you had vehicles, assets, or receiving any non wage payments (these count against you as well). You would really just have to go to your local food stamp office and find out.

Food stamps will ONLY count rent, utilities, and a little on your phone...they don't care about the rest. They will count daycare. I make $1000 month and my rent/utilities are $375.. I get $10 a month. Don't bet on getting food stamps. If you are off work a few months you may get temp fs depending on husbands income.. Take advantage of the WIC and there is a program for daycare that the state may help with that (you pay %..they pay rest)..there is usually a waiting list for that. GL

I think you might be over the income level but check with the state. Also maybe your husband should think about getting a second job. When my husband and I first started out, he would work 2 jobs and go to school to support his family. He would die before allowing someone else support us.

from what i see you could get them, but it depends on how much you get paid. my mom is a single mom with one kid and she makes over 800 dollars a month so they cut her food stamps. people are unfair where i live though. i think it's something in the water. you probably have better chances.
