I don't because a lot of kids need their cell phones because thay walk to and from school by themselves and things like that. What if something bad happens and they can't call their parents or the cops?

Cell phone is a mandatory thing for me cause at my dad's house he doesn't have a home phone so if he left me and my sister home alone we wouldn't be able to call him in case something happened. I've never gotten my phone taken away I just like hearing people's opinion.

I don't think they should because than they get all mad when we go somewhere and they can't get ahold of us. It teaches us nothing and we learn nothing from that punishment. I am not saying there should not be a punishment for going over a bill or something. But just when you miss curfew or something it is retarded to just take away the phone. When they do take it away they learn when they try to get ahold of us and the phone is off that we could be in some deep trouble and have no way of getting help. I'm a kid. I think I would know the answer to a question like this.

It depends on why the kid had a cell phone in the first place. Most kids don't need one and it's a luxury item. For some, it's become necessary because there aren't any pay phones around anywhere (I took a photo of one of the last pay phones in Texas when I visited--it's probably gone by now).

If my kid needed it for the reasons you state, I would have a cell phone where I could block numbers (allowing child to call only home, parent numbers and 911).

I am only 27 years old, and I never had a cell phone when I was younger, why all the sudden do children need a cell phone. Yes, they are nice to have, but I do not think a child needs one. I think that is society pushing more much needed products on us making us think we need them. For thousands of years kids have been growing up just fine without them. I think parents should only take away the phone if the crime was phone related.

well...If the kid is always staying w/ an adult, it's not necessary for the kids to obtain a cell phone because someone is taking care of them. If the kids are walking to school/home by themselves, I do think kids are necessary to obtain a cell phone in their pocket in case something emergency happens.

Personally, I don't think parents should take their kid's cell phones away as punishment because cell phones are used for communication and emergencies... Sometimes, kids are just showing off their cell phones, playing cell phone's game etc., which causes parents to be mad at them... Kids should also held responsible if their parents take their cell phone away...

If your the parent then let the kid keep the cell phone just activate the lock that prevents phone calls other than to emergency only. 911 only calls If your the child then sorry yes if you deserved to be punished then yes loose your phone privileges. The luxury kids think that are owed to them is getting way out of hand. I did not get my son a cell phone on my account until he was working and out of his paycheck he was to be responsible to pay me for his portion of the bill with out being reminded constantly. I would show him the bill tell him the due date and the day I was going to pay the bill. He had until that evening to give me the money and when I would say I paid the phone bill today where is your portion he new he had to have it by then or I would take the phone turn it off and put it up until he paid me for his share. After a couple of times of this he made sure to have me the money. Under these circumstances then I never took his phone as a punishment So as the child who has lost the phone Offer to pay your parents for your portion of the bill Cell phones are not a requirement luxury for a child to own its a privilege parents can give and take away if we are paying for it out of our pockets

Ok....um cell phones have only been around MAYBE 15 years tops! Its not a safety device. If someone grabs you while walking to and from school, you really think you are going to have time to dial and press the little green button?!!

Cell phones are a luxery for kids just like a TV, radio, or Nintendo system. Perfect tool for punishment!! Just wait till you get a car! That will really suck, so you better BEHAVE!

UMMMM YES i believe parents should take away privileges like cell, phones, car use, etc for bad behavior.

Cell phones are not necessity...i did not have one until after college and I walked everywhere...trust me there are ways to be safe and not have a cell phone...plus is kids really do not want it taken then maybe they should think twice about their mis-behavior.

If the kid isn't paying the cell phone bill then it is a privledge, not a right. I'm sure there are other houses around if there is an emergency on the way to or from school.

Having a cell phone is a privilege and a responsibility. If the child is abusing this privilege, than there is no reason why the parent should not take it away. The punishment should match the crime.

there are plenty of payphones in this world( or scream and someone with a cell phone WILL call someone)..a cell phone is an honor to have espically for kids. i didnt have a cell phone until i was 17..so if they arent of age to pay for their own phones then yes, it would b an appropriate punishment to take their cell phones away.
