You certainly are. Young people absorb what they learn better than us old folks do. You may find yourself distracted because of your age, but if you set your mind on learning to play you'll be glad that you did.
Good luck!

I started when I was eleven, SO, I've been at it for Um 30 years, Yikes. But most people really say that any age after 9 or 10 is good. If you are small, think about getting a half and 3/4 size cheaper guitar at first, because it will be easier on you hands and arms. Once you are bigger, or if you are big for you age, get a better quality full sized guitar. It may also be wise to check places like 1 2 3 music and Woodwind/Brasswind for good deals on guitars. I got an electric/acoustic from Woodwind/Brasswind for half price and it sounds wonderful. Much better than my old guitar.

Age is not as much a question as self discipline and maturity. You need to have the ability to make a commitment and stay with it, but whatever age that is, any age is a wonderful age to begin a relationship with one of the most wonderful instruments in the world. Best of luck and we look forward to seeing you on the boards with lots of questions.

A good age to learn is whenever you are seriously commited to doing the work. 12 is great - if you are ready to put in the time and commitment. It isn't easy in the beginning. My son bugged me for a year before I signed him up (he was 10). I needed to make sure he really meant it.

Twelve is a good age....I started late myself...I was 14. If you take lessons and practice everyday, by the time you graduate high school, you could be a guitar god in a jam band.

The age you decide you want to is when to start. But don't wait for Christmas - borrow one if you can and get started on your own. Then drop lots of hints ;-) Also, study music theory - once you understand the math of it, the rest becomes enjoyable to practice and create.

I started at 11. Go for it. If you want to play electric, I recommend a fender squire mini. It is just like a fender squire stratocaster, only it is ideal for small hands. It is a great guitar.
