Perhaps one of the most interesting features of this story is that fact that the Israelites believed they were venerating their god YHWH by worshipping this calf. And, considering that their high priest (Aaron) made it for them and told them to worship it; he even went so far as to tell them that "These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the LORD." (Exodus 32: 4, 5 KJV) Now, the average Israelite naturally thought they were doing nothing wrong.
However this merciful, loving god had them killed as punishment for listening to their religious leader and worshipping him in a way that he did not approve, unbeknownst to them. Note, however, that Aaron, the high priest, who not only made the calf but told them to worship it, was not murdered and in fact was allowed to continue to serve as high priest.
That would be like me punishing my kid for obeying the babysitter's instructions while I was away. How loving is that?
People naturally want to "see" what they are worshipping. So how is this case different from venerating statues or wearing crosses about your neck or using other visual aids when clearly this Abrahamic god is offended by things of this nature?
Will they ever realize the hypocrisy of it all?

Wow, examining that and gazing your icon i think like Donkey from Shrek is asserting it. I pay attention the question interior the voice of Eddy Murphey. actually, the Bible says that the Jews stopped for years at a time in cities accross the Sinai peninsula. So it wasn't all that undesirable as quickly as they have been given out of Egypt. the certainty is, the full 40 years factor is a metaphor. 40 is an exceptionally commonplace sort in historical faith that shows transformation and new beginnings.

Yes because the point is they were delivered out of egypt like they wanted.there own actions caused them to die. They kept disobeying God over and over after he forgave them many times and they wouldnt listen. He said no idol worship and and they decided to make a golden calf and say that a mere statue had delivered them out of egypt and engaged in wrong and sinful acts as they were praising it, that is when Jehovah caused the earth or the ground to swallow the ones up who were engaging in that behavior and all the ones that didnt were saved.after all that God went through to get them out of egypt they turned around and gave there praise to something else and ignore God completely. Read in the bible the whole story and you will see how fortunate they were and alot of them were selfish and inconsiderate they were by false tongue, disobedience, etc.Obedience is better than sacrifice

If you actually READ the Bible you would see that the Isrealites were close to the Promised land. THEY are the reason they wandered around in the wilderness for 40 years, due to their disobedience. And yet, God STILL took care of them. I'd call that a loving God any day.

It took the Israelites 2-3 days to get out of Egypt...but it took 40 years to get Egypt out of the Israelites.
Like the Israelites when they wouldn't learn the lesson before them...they got to walk around Mt. Sinai (again...) When we don't learn our lesson...we get to walk around Mt. Sinai again!
It's an 11 day journey from Egypt to the Promised Land...
The lesson, learn your lessons and apply them to your life, why keep walking in circles? Oh and there's a reason the windshield is bigger than the rear-view mirror!
Peace...

Yes...because they saw the miracles Moses did with the help of God...how can you abandon faith so quickly when you've seen such wrath in defense of you?
==============================
If I saw a river, and all water in the city, turn blood...disease, all kinds of bugs and gross things, the death of every first born, the parting of the red sea....I would not be so quick to lose faith...
If I were there I would be so happy to have been taken out of slavery, so glad that God would show His might on my behalf against such cruel people....

After generations of enslavement, then leading them into one of the most grueling place on the earth, he was lucky they weren't pissing on the Tora.

God didn't take them to die. He had just performed one of the greatest miracles at the Red Sea.

If He took them in the desert to die, they'd be dead.
Thirty four centuries later they're still here, professor.

actually they could have gotten to the promised land within 4 days but only went to the desert and died because they themselves weren't ready to enter it.
I'd appreciate a little less attacks on my God thank you
Bless
