how do i make my icons launch faster?

when i click on the icons on my screen they take forever to launch. is there anyway i can make then launch quicker, like they use to do? could someone tell me in laymans terms(not computer savy). i've tried cleaning out files, defragment thing,disk cleanup and even system restore, but my icons on the screen still take so very long to launch. any help is appreciated. thank you, muriel

Not really unless you upgrade your computer, the speed that they use is dependent on the performance of your computer, . you can try to defragment your hardrive or delete old files you no longer need to clean up some space, but best bet would be more RAM and a defragmentation of the hard drive

Do you have current, updated virus, spyware, adware, keylogger protection?

If you do not, install them and scan your computer.

All of these can affect your computer/s performance.

They will slow down your computer's initial boot and windows loading - they are doing initial scans every time you start your computer.

You did not state what Operating System you were using.

Have you run checkdisk/scandisk/error-checking. this should be run after you have removed unwanted files from your hard drive

Then you run defragmentation

There may be background programs running. Some of these programs are a little harder to detect and remove from automatically starting up.
