Hello, I have an interview with a government agency in the area of security on Monday. I don't really know what to expect or wear! I was thinking about wearing a suit dress or should I wear a pantsuit? Do you know what the interview may be like? Maybe what questions to be ready to answer? I really want/need this job so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time!

Go conservative. Black, navy or dark grey. Don't forget other aspects of your appearance. Don't wear too much makeup, keep the perfume at a minimum or none at all. If you need a haircut, get one. (I've been told to get a haircut prior to an interview, but then some of us would end up with no hair!) Be sure your hands are clean and manicured. Cut your nails, cut any hangnails, etc.

Be sure you know what the agency does, and how they interact with other agencies. (i.e. citizenship with the FBI or DHS) How do you feel about the agency and what they do? How do you feel about the current administrations policies on it? (If there are any overreaching ones, such as immigration for example) How do you feel about working for the government, and being a representative for what can be a major source of frustration for many people? Can you be diplomatic and cool under pressure? Can you handle sensitive and confidential information? Be sure to have examples ready and think about what you can bring using your skills and experiences.

Good luck!

Be sure to arrive a few minutes before the interview (everyone's clock is different) with a resume at the ready. Be sure to bring your driver's license and social security card, they may ask to see these. They will ask you questions regarding your experience and education and why you think you'd be a good fit to work there. I suggest wearing a pant suit, shows your feminine but not afraid to work, be a man, lol. That is how it is these days. Once working you can wear what feels comfortable to you and meets there work standards. Best Wishes on your interview. I'm rooting for you! ~Kristina

I would suggest a conservative, navy blue, gray, etc. skirt and jacket. Pumps to match and conservative jewelry like a string of pearls, white blouse, moderate makeup and a watch. No strong cologne. Keep it conservative and professional. If you can, do some research about the company in case they ask why you want to work for them, you will know something about the company. Be enthusiastic and positive during the interview but also be honest. Be on time, don't eat, drink, or smoke anything right before or during, and don't be nervous. Good luck!

It's probably best to wear a suit with pants for this type of interview. Look as professional as possible for any interview. They will probably ask about your background in security or why you want the job. There is typically a "Tell me about yourself" type question.

what do their people wear on the job?
any idea of why?

I'd tend to overdress rather than underdress.
