My friend told me about smarter potty training using The Potty Stool. http://www.thepottystool.com I was skeptical the stool would make a difference but I never would have guessed how well it works!
I have potty trained my son and daughter and I think boys are harder to train. I think it really help boys to pee standing so that they can see what is happening and connect the sensations. Boys can stand and pee into the toilet when they use The Potty Stool. I realized later that my kids really wanted to imitate what they saw adults doing and they were very determined to mimic correct toilet use.
This really is just smart potty training. I like that I don't have to use or clean a floor potty and I love that my kids are safe and never have to touch the toilet with their hands! It cuts potty training in half because they do not have to be retrained to stop using a potty.
The best part is that kids use it for years. Hope this helps you.

As Deloris said, it really is up to the child. Look for the signs that they are becoming aware of going. My kids started to hide behind a chair or went to a corner away from us and we knew it was time to start. Just don't be too aggressive in pushing using the potty or it might delay the training.
If your child enjoys reading, use the potty as a chance to read a book. It will help them focus on something other than the training. Be sure to keep it positive and it won't take a lot of time to train.
** Edit ** Incentives go a long way. My son really wanted a ball cap so we bought him one that he could have once he made it a week without an accident. My daughter liked stickers so she would get one everytime she went.

I started potty training all of my kids at 2 years. Two of my boys were trained within 2 months, the other one took 9 months. All kids are different.

My son WOULD NOT potty train. He refused to have anything to do with the bathroom. The more we pushed, cajoled, threatened, begged, the more he dug in his heals. He knew HOW, but he just didn't want to. Then, about a month before his 4th birthday, it all clicked. He started with just pee, and he would still poop in a diaper, then slowly, he started the pooping on the potty as well.
There was nothing we could do to move the process along. He did it when he was good and ready. The only thing you can do is make sure he knows what to do when he IS ready.

I started potty training my son when he was about 2 1/2. It only took a couple of weeks! I was very excited, I had heard that boys were harder then girls.

Yeah it is a good question. I don't care what anybody says, though, it's up to the child.
When mine started waking up dry in the mornings and going to 'hide' to poop their diaper, I knew they could kinda feel it coming so I started them then.
Their ages at the time: 2,3 1/2, 2 1/2 and 4.
Here's a tip for boys: put cheerios in the potty and tell them to try and hit every one when they go potty. Mine LOVED doing that!
Good luck to you!

Patience, patience and more patience. Boys are notoriously slow to potty train! Start introducing them to the idea around 2 and a half or 3, but don't expect them to fully master it until they are closer to 4.

I potty trained my four sons at about age two, a few months before their third birthdays.
