This question is sort of complicated, but I will do my best to explain.

The way your voice sounds to you when you speak, and they way your voice sounds when you hear yourself in a recording is different. For me, at least, my voice sounds higher when I talk, but when I listen to my self on my voicemail or on a recording, it is deeper. Therefore, how do you know that you are singing the right notes if the sound you hear and what other people hear is different? I am going to be performing soon and at least to me, when I sing to a song on the radio is sounds right, but how do I make sure? Does that make sense?

Yes, it makes sense. When you talk (or sing) the anatomy of your head affect the way you perceive the sound. You can tell you are singing the right notes by practicing - the pitch should be perceived as being the same.

You know, I've noticed that myself. I get all sorts of freaked out when I hear my recorded or "radio" voice. I'm like, "Is that really me?" because I feel like I sound like a guy. That's when I'm just talking, but when I sing and record, it sounds like a girls voice. It's really weird when I hear my recorded talking voice.

I guess the voice sounds different because of the trebel and bass levels when recording. That would be really interesting to find out.

The actual notation of how you're heard and how you hear yourself doesnt differ. You can match your voice to notes and you can hear when it is resonating and on key. Follow a simple melody (a children's song, maybe the Beatles or Ramones) and match along with that.

As a professional I know the best way is to record yourself or video tape it and then play it back.

You like plug one of your ears while your singing and then you'll be able to hear what other people hear.
