Just to clarify, the city is not trying to ban all bottled water. Mayor Rocky Anderson has requested that city officials no longer purchase bottled water for city functions due to the environmental impacts, such as the chemicals used in production and the plastic waste that goes to the landfill. Your bottled water will not be going away anytime soon. However, brands are starting to change their labels to specify exactly where the water comes from [Aquafina = tap water], so start checking the labels carefully!

And please recycle the empty bottles!

I think that the deal on this is that it is now coming out that the 2 major soda companies (Coke & Pepsi) actually used filtered water (from the tap) and not pure spring water like you would think it is-they are saying that it comes from a public water supply- when you are drinking bottled water. So some cities are putting bans on it because people are spending all of this money on bottled water when it is just tap water that probably has a filter. That is ALOT of money Americans are spending on Dasani and Aquafina when you could just get it out of a sink. I believe that Evian and Poland Spring are still supposed to be coming from spring water. If you don't like the taste of your tap water, you could buy a water filteration system to put on your faucet or one of the water pictures that filters water and I bet you will be surprised how much it tastes like the bottled water that you like so much!

As much as I hate to agree with Salt Lake City mayor Rocky Anderson - not a fan of his - I do believe bottled water is pretty much a 'scam' industry - uh, folks, bottled water comes from the taps that you and I might drink from.

It's going to happen everywhere. What happens to pop and all other bottles? Almost everything can be bought in plastic bottles.
