Oh sweetie. I wholeheartedly agree!
There are some great folks on here like you, Patrick, BatGirl to name a few that I know wouldn't say that in a million years.
However sometimes it gets hard to see you guys under the same label as what these hate filled people call themselves.
I consider the ones like you a "Spiritual Christian" and the Others "Asshole Christians"...it helps me keeps things straight!!
Just out of curiousity though do you ever feel out numbered by the Asshole Christians?

At age 68 now, I was a Christian ages 3 ? - 12, an atheist ages 12-25, an agnostic ages 25-36, a soul aware spiritual seeker of Truth age 36 to early 37, Born Eternal Jesusonian Evangel of Light and Life (and more) ages 37 - present and forevermore in perfect peace in Jesus as God,Savior, Universe Father, Very Elder Brother, Eternal Friend ...
Having shared with many hundreds of thousands of Humans; I well know that each one is very different -- actually a Unique personality in both time and in Eternity and without duplicate !
Most atheists, agnostics, intellectual Christians and Spirit Eternal Born Christians (Jesusonians also) should agree that we all start out here on earth with:
I am ! I am alive, I am curious, I am learning etc.
Later, about ages 12-40 roughly, the deep ontological question in life is:
I am what? or I am who really ?
The intellectual Christians (34,000 different flavors so far and growing more diverse) will say what they have been taught by others or by reading in a book or seeing in the media.
I am a Child of God, in the Name of Jesus, or (other names)
The Spirit Eternal "Born Again" Christians are fully Certain in their souls:
I am now a Divinely Beloved son of God in Jesus in Spirit Light and Life ! In perfect Paradise Peace of Jesus freely flooding down and within ....Thank You my loving and merciful Father ! (using your own words of course; and/or soul awareness beyond words)
Where are you now?
I should add that there are many beliefs of some atheists that are the same as the more aware Christians. For example, there is no "hell", no barbaric "atonement doctrine", no human intermediaries needed to help you find for yourself if God is Real, or if you are to remain clueless and confused. I also know that many token Christians are actually running away from Jesus into godless secular humanism as much as many atheists do !
There are very few atheists when they know that they are near physical death :))
Peace and progress,
Brother Dave, a Jesusonian Christian Truthist

I know many really nice Christians, some of my own family that I love and respect very much. Other Christians think even my liberal Christian family members aren't really Christians and are going to hell. Some Christians really scare me and I don't mean that I believe them when they say we're going to hell. I mean that I think they are so fanatical that anyone outside their specific beliefs can't possibly be a worthwhile person. There is no room in their minds for other ideas that conflict to even be considered. I'm glad you don't assume I am a horrible person. I don't assume all Christians are either.
"Man is a Religious Animal. He is the only Religious Animal. He is the only animal that has the one True Religion- several of them in fact. He is the only animal that loves his neighbor as himself but cuts his throat if his theology isn't straight."

It's not so much the point of view, or the technical exposition of Christian doctrine.
(I understand that if I'm wrong, I AM going to hell, by the majority teachings of Christianity.)
It's the attitude some bring to that datum.
Examples unfortunately abound where vehemence, pride and even exultation appear to have displaced love and concern.
There are definite honourable exceptions, (even?) on YA! R&S. And these I note.
"All X are Y" is a format that should very rarely, if ever, appear in argument or discussion.
Best wishes.

I rarely use the term Christian for the targets of my ire, since the people I target are the least Christian I see. I know that it is a loud-mouthed small-minded subpopulation that cause the majority of the trouble on Y!A. Without them, I think the Atheist / real Christian discussions would be more concise and far more intellectual.

The "no true Scotsman fallacy" is a fallacy (false analogy) when it comes to Christianity because Christianity is based on belief, not nationality.
I think some Christians and atheists will agree while others won't (in answer to your question).

I get you, but who decides who a "true" Christian is? Isn't that an insult to Christians who disagree and feel they are supported in their stances by the Bible?
I'm agreeing with you, but I'm just playing Devil's Advocate . . . interestingly enough in a question about Christianity.

Christians should speak the truth in love, not condemnation.
We ARE ALL SINNERS.
Christians are saved by the GRACE OF GOD.
No one has the right to boast or "Lord it over" anyone.
The words of JESUS >>>
John 14:6
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

You're right, but there are a lot of evangelical crazies out there, and those are mainly the target of the verbal attacks against christians. And this is the web, so there is no filter. Don't take it so personally.

Would that all Christians thought as you, but, alas, they don't. We can dismiss them as "untrue" Christians, but that doesn't really change the fact that they consider themselves Christians and think they're doing something good by condemning those who aren't. I'd like to see more Christians condemn those who call themselves Christians but make no attempt to be Christ-like.
