One very tough question. I am a R.E. INVESTOR, an old vet, so I understand your dilemma. Are you happy in your current profession ?? YES / NO ?? No? Discuss this with your wife, and YES, the children !!! If you decide to go the Army / military route, BLESS YOU, and GO FOR IT !!!! Now, I have a different niche in the R.E.Investment, and I do not confine myself to the "standard methods" employed by the others !!!!
WHY NOT : PROVIDE YOUR ABILITIES TO OTHERS ??? ONCE YOU RECEIVE A " PERMANENT ASSIGNMENT / DUTY STATION" YOU JUST MIGHT BE ABLE TO ACT AS AN INDEPENDENT BROKER THERE BY REPLACING THE LOST INCOME, PER MILITARY PAY ??? Just some thoughts, from an ol' vet / investor .
GOOOOD LUUUUCK, whichever way you, your WIFE and CHILDREN choose !!!!

You will be taking a huge pay cut and your family will suffer if you choose the military. Most people go in to get the money so they can earn a degree to get a better paying job like yours. If you were single, I would recommend it. However you are not. In your case, I would recomme it if your current job is very insecure and the future is not looking any brighter and need a new job pronto.

If you still want to go over seas or help out our military, there are plenty of private companies and contractors that work with the military or for the military. Making you could invest in one or start a company your self.

Why does this appeal to you, may I ask?

Edit: Do not join the reserves or national guard for you will become active duty.

Keep your job!!!!! I am retired from military and had been out for 14 years. Never attained that kind of money in my life(68,$$$ is the most). You will ever get what you have due to the fact that pay for a private (E-1) is not that much. It will be the worst time for your family. Keep in mind that military and families constantly moving(3 years the most in every station overseas). Stay where you at. That's the best advice that I can give to you!!!

I would join the Army Reserve or National Guard. You have have a family you can not afford to take that kind of pay cut.

Go into the reserves or the guard... You will get to keep your job.... Dont give up that 100K a year. Keep the job and serve in the guard/reserves....

Even if you get deployed, it is against the law for your company to fire you....

Well if you want to go from making 100k a year to making about 24k a year (if you're lucky) then go ahead and go for it. Just make sure your wife has a full time job to help pay the bills- she's going to need it.

Join the national guard/reserves. You can be deployed, more than likey will, and you can still hang on to your job even if you do get deployed.

You're a good American.

You will not be able to provie for your family as you once did and 100k a year is hard to come by. Don't throw your career away.

You go see a recruiter.

Can you and your family adjust to a 50-75% reduction in income?
