Warren Buffet the billionaire gave away most of his wealth to charity recently. He said he waited because he thought he could manage and grow the money better than the charities and there will always be a need for money to charity so there is no rush to give at any given time. What do you think?

I like to do both. I want to ''pick someone up today, each
day," in some way...and when I leave this earth, I want my
estate to benefit more than one or two people, and still
show some benefit for my family....
but it is my choice, while I'm alive, to make that decision,
and not for my offspring to object, for they already know
my true feelings...
Perhaps Warren Buffet, was / is / has been rather intelligent
and was able to get the money ''to draw interest'', far better
than giving it away, as he lived in the past...
Some people know a lot about that type of thing...
Yes, there will always be a Need to someone, by someone,
in this world...and in some areas, like the one (area) where
I live, the needs are bigger than the resources, for filling
that need, so this is what made me contact that U.S. Congress Person, about a Statewide / Nationwide Food-
Bank Network.
My idea is being considered in Congress, and will be /
should be implemented this next Session. At least, from
what I've been told, it will....
so it can help the American Citizens, and World Hunger
too.
Since I've been in the store business, and learned how easy
it is ''to make a profit'' from foods, etc. and even from my
''doll quilts'' and my ''prayer quilts'', I would not sit in a house
alone and "pine away the hours'' for no one, for the $$$ I
make I use to help someone, even on a daily basis.

wherever I can...to the children and the military people in
Iraq...
I love being a Lady like that too...and not just ...Too Funny
P.S. Since I have a Rare Brain Defect, I'm donating my
brain for Research, when I leave this earth, so someone
else can know how to give medical treatment to others...
for my brain / my thinking power, comes from "less than
1/3 of the Pituitary Gland cells...the rest of the gland, has
empty space....so think about this,...because some people
have said that I have a ''pea-size'' brain to be...so Too Funny

It is better to give when the need is present.

Warren Buffet's comments are true in a sense. He certainly did "manage" money well. You must remember that he did not get rich by being a philanthropist. Nobody can acquire that kind of mega wealth without associating with criminals. That's true of Bill Gates too. They both have ulterior motives for investing in those so-called charities.

I won't bother telling you everything I know, because it would take too much time. Besides, you may not believe it unless you find out on your own. Do a little investigating on the internet. You might be surprised.

reptaur, I agree with him. Especially for his reason that he could build more money than they could. That means he was giving more to charity than if he had given the money many years earlier and they had managed it. That might not be true for most of us.

Suze Orman presented an idea about charitable contributions that's the best I've ever heard: you start giving to charity once your retirement is fully funded, all your debts are paid, and you have taken care of yourself and your family. I'm sure it's more detailed at suzeorman.com, so you'll get a better description there, but what was important there was that you have taken care of your needs and responsibilities, then began to give money away. Smart, very smart. Don't give it away until you have no chance to become a financial burden yourself.

It is better to donate money and other needed items to charity over the course of ones lifetime rather than wait until the end of life to donate it because as a donor, you may have the pleasure of seeing the "fruits" of your donations. For example, contributions such as the Cancer Society may come out with new discoveries that might benefit even the donor during his or her lifetime. After one dies, one may not be aware of the progress made from their contributions or exercise judgment about how the contributions may be used most effectively.

That is up to the giver, but I would prefer and do give to charities when I am able. I have also noticed that when I do, I start receiving all kinds of mail requesting money for their charity.

I give to PVA a lot. I don't have a lot of money, so..I give what I can when I can.

Answer: Give it away during your lifetime.

Personally, charity isn't about how much money you give....but where it comes from. If it comes from the heart, that is the best way to go. Like how the story goes in the bible....every rich man gave a tithe of their earnings..but when a poor woman came and gave her last penny......she is the most generous one of all.
