Hey, I am confused about a dirty bomb that a terorist organization would employ in a city. Would it have the same effect as Hiroshima, with a huge mushroom cloud and a devastating blast radius and radiation, or would it just be a smaller explosion that spreads the toxins or whatever is put in the bomb??

hi.Had some on hands experiance on HE.The"bomb"is not a nuke. The blast would depend on explosive and wont give them out,out here. The Blast would probably hurt a few people, but the real danger is what grade of dirt they could use.IT may affect alot of good people a long time.

The idea of a dirty bomb is that they take radio active material and use conventional explosives to blow it up and spread the radio activity about - there is no actual nuclear explosion which would be a "nuke."

IT it is just radioactive material disbursed by an explosion and the wind. nothing like hiroshima. it would basically cover a small area, depending on wind and the amount of explosives. small area but if in the right place could kill a bunch of people in say new york or l.a..

No. Dirty bombs spred nuclear material, causing radioactive contamination and do not undergo nuclear fission.

I think a dirty bomb would just terrorize people. It could be tiny and pose no real danger and people would still freak.
