How long would it take for it to close up after you take the bellybutton ring out??? I want one, but it may interfere with cheerleading, so I don't know for sure if I want it THAT bad!

I currently don't have a bellybutton piercing, but I want one!!!! Do you like your piercing?? Do you like to show it off a lot?? If so, then how??? How old were you when you got your bellybutton piercing????? Also, is it ok to swim with it in, or not???? I'm a 13 year old girl! Thanks in advance!!!!!!

I got mine like a week ago. It is still a little tender but it only hurts when I forget its there and my clothes catch it. I love it so far, I know I will like it alot more as soon as it heals all the way. I pretty much only show it off when I am wearing a swim suit. It is ok to swim with it in after it heals. You have to wait like 6 weeks I think before you can swim. (if you do it before that, you can just clean it as soon as you get out)

Good Luck, I hope this helps you!

First discuss this idea with your folks. At 13 I don't believe there is a state that will allow you to get your navel pierced with out a parent filling out papers. And don't even think that having a friend do it is at all acceptable. The navel piercing is one of the closest piercing in terms of an actual medical wound there is. You must have a professional do any sort of body piercing!

As for closing. I have had mine for over 15 years, and at this point it will never close. The longer you have one the longer it will take to close. When you first get the area pierced, you will be instructed not remove the ring (or bar bell) for at the very least 4 to 6 weeks. It is better if you wait longer, but the anticipation of changing the piercing can be great. Once you are allowed to change the jewelry you can easily find clear or small jewelry to use when you are cheer leading. Looking on line is the best place. I have had friends who needed to deal with similer issues.

Swimming with your piercing. After the initial healing of 4 to 6 weeks (it will not be compleatly healed at this time, that does take 6 months to a year) enough of an initial scarring should have built up to protect it.

Advice to people who thought that they were getting infections when pierced.......What you might have been experiencing was and allergic reaction. 14K gold should be used for the initial piercing and up to 2 years after to allow ample scar tissue to develope.

36 & still love my piercings

I got mine pierced when I was 14. But I took it out because it kept getting infected. The bellybutton is one of the easiest places to get an infection. It was fun to show it off when I wore a bikini and belly shirts, but I don't think it was worth the aweful infections I got. You should generally wait until its healed [it varies...however long your piercer tells you] to go swimming. If your piercing gets infected, it could definitley interfere with your cheerleading. They close up pretty easily to. I think its almost immediately after you take it out. I would seriousley re-think this before you go and get it done. Look up "bellybutton piercing infection" on google.

It doesn't take very long for a belly piercing to close. I'd say a week to close up. I LOVE my piercing!! As for showing it off, that's why I got it in the first place. I got my piercing when I was 13 and I'm glad I did. And swimming with it in is fine, just make sure the piercing itself stays moisturized.

It would take several months for it to close, and you may still carry a very small scar. I like mine, I've had it for a long time. I had mine done, before it became such a fad. I had it done when I was 23. I wear a small double barbell when I swim and exercise. It never interferes with my work=outs. I had a very long dangling flower once, that got caught in my jeans, and pulled a little. But, it didn't hurt all that bad, and I just changed it. My advice is to wear something tiny when you cheer so it won't interfere.

I had one in high school and had to take it out for cheerleading practice. Just so you know I now have a terrible scar on my belly from it getting infected. I also just had a baby and it even tore a little where the hole used to be. A girl I work with said the same thing happened to her. If there is one thing I wish I had listened to my dad about, it was to not get that done.

it won't take that long to close up at all. maybe a few days. i have one and i love it. i show it off in tight tops where you can see the outline of the ring or when i'm in a bikini. i got it pierced when i was 25. you can swim with it as long as you cover it with tegaderm during the initial healing period. after that swim like normal. if you are 13 you will need mom or dad to go with you to get it done.

i love mine i have had it now for 6 years.. when you 1st get it you can not swim in a pool for at least a month.. i went in the sea water 1 week after i got mine.. but i figured it was ok you do clean it with salt water lol.. it was fine though.. i dont really show it off that much.. i was 14 when i got mine done.. iw as also a cheerleader.. get either a clear one to put in during competitions or use a band-and to put over it .. the long you have it the longer it takes to close up... if you take it out within the 1st year you have it it will close up with in 1 to 2 hours... it takes at least 6 months to 1 year to fully heal

also to Amanda yours closed up faster because you are pregnant... when you become preg they tell you to take it out because as your belly gets bigger it will either close or get pushed out

I got mine when I was 13 (over 3 years ago). I never got an infection, sometimes it would get a little red and oozy but that would pass. I actually changed it before the six month waiting period my piercer recommended, but I was fine...i've never had a problem with it, sometimes I even forget its there. I think if you put a bandage over it for sports, you will be fine.

it will bother you when it is healing because of the stretching and bending, your uniform will rub on it so you may want to get it after season is over. They take a good 6 months to heal.If you are to get it use a ring not a bar that has a dangle on it
