Just old enough to chew it. How young are we talking here? Hard (dry) puppy food will help make potty clean-up time much easier, but if your puppy is too young to chew it then try soaking it in warm water or milk first - for a couple of weeks. Gradually reduce the amount of liquid until the puppy is accustomed to eating the dry food.
Good luck!

Are you talking about weaning the puppy from it's mother.
If this is the case you can start giving the puppy puppy fod soaked in warm water from the age of 3/4 weeks.
If you want to know at which age you switch from Puppy to Adult food, this is normally 12 months.

I waited about 6 months before slowly switching his food. They're technically puppies till they turn 1 year old, but anytime after 6 months should be ok.

You want him to be big. Usually about one. Bigger dogs tend to stay puppies longer, and may need it for two years. Real small dogs might need it less than a year.
