I have heard not to use a storage block and not to store them in a kitchen drawer. Any ideas?

Yes!

Magnets.

Glue or duct tape some good magnets (hardware and craft stores have good strong ones) to a strip of wood.

Attach the strip of wood UNDER one of your upper cabinets, inside a cabinet door or (since I have no children) on the front of the ol' fridge!

Cleaned and dried (don't dishwash good blades, ruins the handles and dulls them), and stuck to your magnets, they can air dry thoroughly.

The tape will prevent scratching, the blades never get banged around, and there is a positive joy in being able to grab the "perfect" knife for the job you are doing!

There! You've freed up a safety hazard drawer, organized your cutlery, and are more efficient!

Looks totally cool, too!

Best wishes!

I use a storage block. Now, I made sure the cutlery is completely dry before storing.

I think I paid $75.00 for my knife it is always on the kitchen counter near my cutting board (wood), carborundum is on the window sill.
I am single there is no need for the other fancy knives they are in a drawer some where.

I have a wooden storage block for mine. When I place them in the slots, I place them blade side up. This will keep the knives from dulling on you.

I clean and dry my knives & cutlery immediately after use and pop it back in the felt box they came in.
It's been years, they look & feel brand new.

I have hard plastic 'sleeves' that slip over the blades and then I store in a drawer.

If you mean sharp knives, you want to protect their edges.
Expensive ones come in a cloth wrap with pockets, use it.
I use a plastic block with sharpeners in the slots.
But these are not expensive knives.

Magna-bar! You just mount it on the wall and slap your knives on it. The knives don't get dirty from a block, and they don't get dull from bumping into other utensils in a drawer. I miss mine, but I have nowhere to mount one.
