Drug studies are done first on laboratory animals according to what effects are hoped for or predicted by chemical tests. Drug studies need to be done scientifically with a control group and the administrators of the tests must be double blinded from the results so they cannot accidentally affect the outcome of the tests..

All clinical tests are anecdotal and cannot be relied on as true science. They represent only the subjective opinions of the clinicians.

Addiction is usually predicted but sometimes shows up later in clinical study after the drug is approved.
