the MOST compatibility is DVD-R
Maybe 50-70% are also DVD+R compatible.

There may be one or two that are only DVD+R

A bigger issue is what file format they will play.

Philips seems to have the best compatibility for CD, DVD, and formats VCD, MPG, WMA, (S)VCD, DVD RAM, MP3, CD Audio, etc.

you need to check which dvd your recorder use. It's on the front of the player.
