How do you change your tv from showing in 480i to 720i or the 1000i?

phillips hi definition 40 something inch plasma tv

its just that some guy came to our house to fix something in our tv and then changed it to 480i in order to get rid of the grey boarders on the sides.. but it is worse quality and i just wanted to see if its from that. how do u change it to differnet once?

Most HD TVs automatically adjust to the appropriate settings based upon the signal they are receiving.

depending on what the source is outputting (480-720p-1080i etc) your tv should automatically adjust to the required resolution.
