yesterday i recieved my new hard drive and i had recieved an error that i needed a disk to boot the drive and i put my xp cd in but it wouldn't except it. i went to bios to try and change the settings and it wouldn't let me. to make the long story short i called my uncle and he told me to install windows 98 first and then upgrade it to XP. i installed 98 and then put the xp cd in and tried to install it but after the reboot, and two options showing boot windows XP installation and the other option to start windows, i clicked xp and a blue screen came up and said a problem was found and windows was shut down, if this is the first time you saw this message restart your computer blah blah blah.. i did all that and still did the same thing. i couldnt uninstall windows 98 either. how will i be able to put windows XP on my new hard drive now?? it seems like its a lost cause.

Is the XP CD a genuine one ? If not this is probably why it won't boot.

I'd have to say best bet for advice on reloading windows is at www.windowsreinstall.com full guides for different windows versions. Follow them you should be done quick.

Some older computers do not support bootable CD's

Create a Windows Startup Disk.

Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs

Click on the Startup Tab

Put a diskette in your A: Drive and click on the Create Disk button
