Speaking for them, I would have to say they are only against it because the pope was/is. Had he ruled that it wasnt a baby until the 9th month, most CAtholics wouldve probably followed suit.
But it doesnt stop many, just ask Barak Hussien Obama and John Kerry.

It isn't the least bit odd. I am abhorred that abortion is even considered as a form of birth control!
Christians against both abortion and birth control realize that sex was created to be a loving expression of love and fidelity between a committed, married couple. In such a circumstance there is no need for either birth control or abortion. Children are a blessing.

Only God has the right to say who lives and who dies. We are against abortions because it is the murder of an innocent life.
And don't give me the what if it's rape thing...I was raped and have a beautiful 12 year old daughter who was a product of rape. I look at her and see all the babies that women have murdered because of rape and it makes me sick, The children had nothing to do with it and can be the biggest blessing in your life.
Murdering innocent children makes you the worst kind of murderer there is, to kill someone so innocent is against all reasoning and rationality. If my life was in danger if I gave birth, I would gladly give up my life so my child could be born.
I am a catholic and I am against abortion.

+ Abortion +
Abortion is first and foremost the murder of a defenseless and innocent life.
Catholics believe that from the moment of conception until natural death, each human being is endowed by God with dignity and rights.
You shall not kill. (Ex 20:13; cf. Deut 5:17)
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you. (Jer 1:5; cf. Job 10:8-12; Ps 22:10-11)
My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately wrought in the depths of the earth. (Ps 139:15)
Early Church writings: You shall not kill the embryo by abortion and shall not cause the newborn to perish. (Didache 2, 2: SCh 248, 148; cf. Ep. Barnabae 19, 5: PG 2, 777; Ad Diognetum 5, 6: PG 2, 1173; Tertullian, Apol. 9: PL 1, 319-320)
+ Pro-Life +
Catholics believe that life is a sacred gift from God and needs to be treated with all human dignity from the moment of conception to the point of natural death.
The Catholic Church is not just against abortion, it is pro-life in the widest sense. This is often called a "Consistent Ethic of Life."
This pro-life stance stresses the highest regard for dignity of human life including that of:
+ All people in objecting to unjust war and nuclear arms.
+ The unborn in objecting to to abortion, in vitro fertilization, frozen embryos, embryonic stem cell research, and cloning
+ The elderly, sick and dying in objecting to assisted suicide and euthanasia
+ Prisoners in objecting to torture and the death penalty
+ The poor and minorities in supporting social justice issues.
For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, sections 2270 and following: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt3sect2chpt2art5.htm#2270
+ With love in Christ.

I believe to the Church, it is one in the same. I think the Church still teaches that the sex act, though it should be pleasurable and an act of love, should still be an opportunity to conceive a child. Therefore, if you are using any kind of contraception, you are blocking the possibility of conceiving, which is the primary reason for the sex act. Both abortion and contraception stop a child from being born.
That said, I believe in the use of conception and have used it myself. I also believe in choice, but I am NOT pro-abortion.

God is the Author of Life. He giveth and He (should) taketh! Abortion is slavery to sin. Sin repells God. For those that tread this path and does NOT repent, consider themselves on their way to the infernal abyss.
Seek knowledge in truth and humility.

This will shake your very beliefs.
#2. Birth Control in any form (man & woman) is also a mortal sin.
Wake up and prepare yourself to meet Divine Justice.
Kerri ... You are awesome! God bless you and your beautiful girl! A wonderful example of Grace over Nature! Amen.

Because it takes an innocent life.
Birth Control is a totally different issue.
Peace be with you.
But you seem to be bent on believing what you wish about us, no matter what we say, and unwilling to read our Catechism that has our beliefs and reasons for them in it, so I really do not know what purpose you even have for asking.
But, in the spirit of Jesus, I will still answer.
Peace be with you.

Only God can say who lives and dies, and He never said that fetuses should live. And the reason is because if a fetus is allowed to live, it causes the death of a child. And God is opposed to the death of living children. http://www.prolifeismurder.com
It is a fact that there are over 100 million children that need to be adopted because of the actions of the pro life movement. If you bring another child into the world for adoption, you are taking the place of a child already here. You will cause that child to suffer.
