Distilled water is pure H20 so it provides no minerals. If you were to drink nothing but distilled while out in the sun you could suffer ill effects by not replacing electrolytes. You would be amazed how much salt and potassium you can sweat out in a couple of hours. Also distilled water just tastes bad because it doesn't have any of the minerals we are use to. And just FYI for all those bottled water snobs many of them are just bottled tap water and almost all tap water in the U.S. is just as good for you as bottled for nearly free. Don't believe me go put a bottle of tap and a bottle of bottled water in the fridge for a couple of hours and do a blind taste test.

Tap water contains fluoride...good for the teeth.
Also, tap water contains small levels of metal. Really small, but there. This acts as an electrolyte which helps in restoring you after a vigorous workout.
And yes, your immune system needs a workout, too. Think of it as your body training for when something really big and nasty comes along.
Our society now is way too anti-bacterial. All we are doing is giving our immune systems a break. We are also forcing bacteria and viruses to mutate in order to combat anti-bacterial agents. That's why we now have strains of flu that seem to last much longer.

It's not about bacteria. DI water is bad because it leaches chemicals out of your body A little of it won't hurt you but you shouldn't drink it as a regular thing. When it's hot and you sweat a lot, you lose salts (electrolytes), and if you make up that moisture with DI water you can get into trouble.

I do not have an authoritative answer but..
I think it is okay to drink DI water. I have heard it is bad because the electrolytes have been removed. But we get plenty of them in our foods. The one thing that I have noticed drinking DI H2O is it has a bit of a drying sensation to my mouth.
But it is water I say drink up.

I drink spring water, myself, if I can. That has enough exposure to the "real" world that it will challenge the system, but doesn't have the chemicals of tap water, which make me ill.

DI stand for de-ionized.all that means is that the mineral contaminates have been removed. Most bottled water(not including spring/mineral water) is carbon filtered,de-ionized and ozonated.Pure water is the best for you when it comes to re-hydration,water with trace minerals is good for you to replace the minerals lost from your system.

What is DI ?
It really sound like your off track.
distiled ?
no way they use tripled distilled water in the IV's
your are right your digestive system filters incoming fluid BY osmosis but only pure H2O is absorbed into blood.
