After she has sat on them for at least 5 day put a small pen light (flashlight) under the egg and look through it. You will see red veins if it is fertile.

Do you have a rooster?

Otherwise the eggs will be infertile and probably spoiled by now.

If on the other hand, Chanticleer is ready and willing - then hold the eggs to a strong light - at least 100 watts or better - and you should be able to see embryos forming.

Do this a couple of times per week and note their progress.

It's called "candling."

Chances are if she is still sitting on them they are fine. When I was young we had layers. When we wanted chicks we would use lipstick to write the date laid on the egg and put it back in nest. Its been awhile but I think at 1 or 2 weeks you can put a flashlight under the egg to see thru it. Compare it to a freshly laid one or one from the store. It should be a lot more solid in the center.

If she hasn't had access to a rooster then they are probably not fertlized. You can hold a flashlight up to the egg in a dark room and see if there are chicks inside. Compare them to a store bought egg for reference.
