...any ideas? Will this ruin his teeth if it goes on for a while longer?
(I imagine eventually he will let me in there.)

I had to make a game out of it. I picked out the most colorful toothbrushes and baby toothpaste. I even made up a stupid little song to distract them. I think it went something like

Open your mouth and let mommy clean your toofie toofs

If I sang it goofy enough they would laugh and I was able to sneak it in on them.

Good luck!!

I felt the same way, but her teeth were in good shape when she saw the dentist just before her first birthday. He told me don't worry that she bites the toothbrush and isn't going to simply let me brush her teeth. He said we should still keep toothbrushing a part of her daily routine.

my sons were the same! we just tried to get the tooth brush in a bit more every time their teeth were brushed untill they were comfortable having it in their mouth! dont try and force it in as he will probably dislike it more! do it in his own time and he will soon forget how 'evil' the tooth brush is lol
perhaps you could make it into a game? like many parents do when they give their children food 'the planes coming in to land open wide'!!
well thats my opinion any way hope it may have helped in some way!
plenty of praise too, that will make him feel like he has done well

All the best. Assuming you wont succeed. If so based on my two nephews' experience. Avoid chocolates and sweets till the baby learns to use a toothbrush properly unless you want to see cavities too early.

the same exact thing happened to my cousin and her child.
she let him had wayy to much milk and didnt brush his teeth.
and now he's about 4 and he has small, semi rotten teeth.
also, i think it affects the shape somehow because his teeth went from straight to crooked, meaning he'll need braces in a couple of years.

They make pacifiers now that you can stick your finger in and feel the gums. You may be able to sneak some fluoride or something on there. If he still uses pacifiers it is definitely worth a shot. Call your dentist and see what they suggest. Maybe they can get him in there and do something.

Spoon feed him some sherbert, so his gums will numb, then try. You may want to try feeding him sherbert from the brush after a few spoonfulls.
