Don't the space shuttles release lots of Carbon Monoxide when launched?

No. The fuels do not contain carbon, not even the solid rocket booster fuel. But even if they did, there are only about 2 launches per year, compared to thousands of airline flights and millions of cars driving every day. Al Gore releases more CO2 by flying around in a private jet all the time than the shuttle releases in its few flights per year.

The space shuttle uses Hydrogen for its fuel. So no, it doesn't produce any CO2 or CO.

However, the vehicle that moves the shuttle from it's hangar to the launch pad gets 2 gallons per mile. Luckily it's only a few miles to the lauch pad.

For starters, it's carbon dioxide that causes global warming, not carbon monoxide.

It depends on what you mean by "lots". Here's a brief analysis of the emissions of a space shuttle launch:

"Space shuttle fuel consumed in a launch: 3.5 million pounds

Gasoline consumed in one day in the US - 2,500 million pounds.

In other words, one space shuttle launch is equivalent to about two minutes of gasoline consumption in the United States."

The amount of emissions released by the Shuttle is Insignificant compared to that released by the Oceans on an hourly basis!

The shuttle does not their fuel is liquid Oxygen and liquid hydrogen . When they burn it produces nothing but water vapor. If they produce CO the motors would not be very efficient.

The Main engines are Hydrogen burning. What comes from buring Hydrogen in Oxygen? 2H + O?

I can't recall what the Boosters burn, but they only burn for 2 minutes
