What file system is a podcast?

i don't have an ipod but my psp plays mpeg-4 videos. i don't know if that's the proper format also how can i change mpeg-4 videos into avi mpg or wmv?

also i'm using video vault for psp to transform videos into mp4 and also i'm using vista so i would need results for file conversion that are compatible with vista home premium
