When the great souls suffer physical pain it is to set the proper example of patience and tolerance as well as helping to achieve greater hights of perfection in their relationship with God.

Krsna, The full incarnation of the Godhead, did not have to undergo so much physical suffering. Great souls like Lord Jesus suffered because they were empowered jiva or Saktavesa Avatara. Lord Jesus was therefore, not a true incarnation of the Godhead. Lord Jesus was an especially empowered soul.

Read about it in the Vaisnava teachings.

Their physical suffering was irrelevant to them.

It was existential suffering - discovering themselves in a painful reality of suffering people - that produced their great insights, enlightenment, and contributions to humanity.

Piety, charity and compassion are always valuable, but if we aren't aware of being a "fish out of water" we aren't likely to contribute much of real value in this lifetime.

It is sometimes tough to relate to others pain.
But the circle of life is that when a person suffers Only then he/she remembers God or pray to God. Then the spritual life begins...

Jesus was beaten and whipped. He was nailed to a cross.
So, yes, he had pain.

Crucifixion is one of the most painful deaths that there is.

I have no idea what pain the others suffered.
