A few months ago something happened in my life that made me rethink my life and decide to become more spiritual.
My friend thinks the Self Realization Fellowship would be good for me. They seem cool and I like their views but some of their practices seem strange to me.
What do you guys know or think about them?

is their messiah/whatever supposed to have lived several centuries?
sometimes i get the make believe stuff (religions) mixed up

It is a false doctrine and God's Word the Holy Bible tells us not to associate or fellowship with such people. It is again Hindu spiritualism tied up with Yoga and we are told by God to leave such people alone.
