Because everything they own, and their income, is undocumented just like they are so there is no proof of income...or anything else, for that matter. It's unlawful for a hospital to turn them away, they are forced to bear the cost of the illegal aliens that give false information and then don't pay their bill. An American can't feign not understanding English or use the excuse of low or no income. An American cannot be turned away either but...it's happened in both cases.

I know the feeling,
"Children's Health Insurance Program ,
Immigration Status and Participation in Medicaid and Your State's Health Insurance Program for Children
Sometimes parents are afraid to get health care benefits from the government for their children. They may be applying for lawful permanent residence ("green card"), citizenship, or work authorization, and think their immigration status will be affected if they apply for health insurance for their children.
But, did you know that eligible children can receive free or low-cost health care services without affecting their parents' immigration status?
Immigration officials will not consider your child's enrollment in health insurance through the State Children's Health Insurance Program or Medicaid, in determining your immigration status. The only exception is when the government pays for a child to live in an institution, such as a mental health facility or a nursing home, where the child is provided long-term care.
Here are some of the benefits your children will receive by enrolling them in your state's health insurance program:
Health care, such as:
Routine doctor visits for checkups
Vaccinations, and other regular services
Hospital care in case of serious illness
Prescriptions "
Do yourself a favor and when the ask your name say Rosa Mendez or Juan Valdez. Then say you used to live in Mexico and have no papers.
You'll have beifits rolling out of your ears, and the best thin is it's legal!

lepetitefille has not been to an ER in any hospital I guess. Last time I was there it was FULL of illegals seeking and getting FREE medical treatment. Anyone can receive medical treatment simply by going to an ER.

Because life isn't fair and public policy is messed up around the board. What a shocker!
So if an illegal comes to an emergency room after having a heart attack for working 12 hours in the sun he should be turned away? Kind of ironic considering how many of them die in the desert just to come to the U.S. to find a job most of us consider crappy.
As for assistance, there's a lot of it for disadvantaged person, but a lot of people are, surprisingly, too proud to ask for it or would rather just complain. It's ironic how a lot of conservatives are fiercely anti-immigration and anti-universal health care. Want better benefits? Get a better job; that's the conservative position. Otherwise, stop whining.

Can you investigate further since you should be able to get something from the many tax dollars we pay. Are you sure you have exhausted all your options? like free clinics? pharmacy assistance orgs?
The federal govt mandates that the state of CA pay for illegals medical care just for the info of one answerer who didnt seem to know that. And that means billions in tax payers ( of the state) $

You can get help if you are very poor or the expense of your operation is something you can't afford. Of course you can not have money in the bank or any property to show.I think you can have a car but it must be a clunker.

I totally agree! My boyfriend is a type one diabetic and has to give himself shots twice a day. Health insurance for him is out of the roof, so he has none. Its just unbelievable that both people that don't work and immigrants get free insurance and people like me, a college student, and my boyfriend, an insulin dependant diabetic get NO HELP. Its BS and it makes me mad.

You are incorrect in your assumption. I know of lots of American Citizens that have received discounted or free medical care because they were poor.
