I was riding along with my mother-in-law on her paper route to learn it. I will be subbing for her when she goes on vacation and it is one of those rural routes done in the middle of the night. So we are driving down this country road and out of nowhere this huge black dog looking thing (sort of) races out toward the front of the car. It was very black..... like VERY black. I could tell that the coat was very shiny because of the headlights reflecting off of it. I remember bracing myself to hit it. I don't know how I didn't. My mother in law saw nothing. She only heard me scream/gasp. So she made me turn around and go back. I saw it once more and the third time there was nothing but a tiny little dog that ran alongside the car. It wasn't so much what I saw though, as the feeling I got when i saw it. I can't even do this feeling justice with words. It was horrible and it lasted for probably 20 minutes or so and then it subsided.

I am adding details now.

The feeling came back very strong and we pulled up to a mailbox 30 seconds later that looked mangled. The steel pole that the box is on was twisted, not once but several times, like a candy cane. It was not like that before. A few minutes later my mother in law asked me what I did to my arm. There was a long scratch going up it that I hadn't noticed before. (it could very well have been from my kids and I just didn't notice it) The rest of the night went without incident.

My sister-in-law drove along last night and we are driving around (I never have any clue where we are) and the feeling hit me out of nowhere. I said "Is this that road?" It was. I FELT it. Then my arm hurt like I had a scratch, but there was only a tiny red mark.

So my question is, why didn't she see it? Does that mean I am hallucinating? What about the mailbox and how did I know where we were just because of that feeling?

PS I absolutely do not believe in superstition or paranormal or anything of the sort. I do believe in angles and demons though. Can't believe in one without believing in the other I suppose.

We took a camera back there the next night and I have pictures of the mailbox.

they do have a tendency to bring on that emotion, and most of the time it seems pretty irrational. i know what you mean. a lot of people will tell you you're crazy, but i won't.

edit- foxfire knows what he's talking about. i've seen some of the answers he's given. he and i are among the few people who have had similar experiences. i don't like to talk about my experience, for obvious reasons, but here goes...

i was agnostic for many years, though i dabbled in paganism when i was younger. i used to think it was cool to have my cards read, get involved with seances, and things like that. for a long time i was fooled into believing there was no harm in such things.

when i finally started going to church (and no, to settle any arguments, it wasn't a ''holy roller'' church), and earnestly giving christianity a try, i was attacked and held down against my will, physically, several times, though not by human hands. sometimes the demon was visible, other times it wasn't. i didn't even believe in things like that until it happened to me, and i would have called anyone else who did a nut. the fear you are experiencing is a part of being attacked. it gave me an intense fear every time, and caused me physical pain a few times. the good news is that this spirit can be put in its place, but you have to cast it out- not with anger, or in a fit of hysteria, as both of those are products of fear. you have to command it to leave with authority, and with calm confidence in the name of Jesus.

there's a good chance that you're being called into great faith, and that's why this is happening. the enemy has taken note, and he DOES NOT want that to happen. take strength in the name of Jesus. i believe this experience will change your life and the lives of those around you for the better, much more than you can imagine right now, so long as you don't give in to the fear. the more you give in to the fear, the stronger the attacks will become. have faith in Christ.

There are too many details that are unanswered (if I asked questions, I'd sound like a cop). Some say imagination, some indicate trick of the (lack of) light. Being startled gives and adrenaline surge which would last for several minutes, and that *may* account for the bad feelings. What bothers me is that there are reports of large black dogs that don't seem quite right, and maybe you did see something unexplained. Try going back in the daylight and seeing if there is a black dog in the area, that might settle things.

Demonic manifestations like this can occur and often have no obvious reason. They do not usually have any lasting spiritual affect on the observer. Nevertheless check that you have had no contact with the occult in the past, eg. been to a medium, used a ouija board, had palm read etc. If so have it dealt with.

It was a demon.......yes a very black demon. since you don't believe in such things he came to show you s/he exist. So here is the remedy get allot of garlic...... no that is for vampires. OK get a silver bullet (not Coors you may see more demons).... no that's for wear-wolves. OK last try tell your your mother-in-law to do her own paper route....unless of course she give you some demon repel-ant.

You would have seen "samael". That's the devils hound. It just likes to disturb you but it can't really do anything to you coz' it ran away from the devil. That's because the devil didn't give Samael any bones. Anyways, the devil always visits people who have seen Samael just to ask them if you have seen it. Don't worry, you're going to have a dream about it soon, and just answer the questions and don't be afraid. Be VERY afraid!

Fear
Fear makes us see things.
Once I was carrying a bundle of burlap sacks for a sack race. It was a large loose bundle in my arms.
Before I picked them up I was worried about spiders.
I was walking along carrying them from the barn to the house and I looked down and saw, plainly, 10 or 15 black spiders on those sacks.
I quickly dropped them and went looking for the spiders to kill them but they were not there.
They were never there. It was fear.

Spiph, First are you a christian? If you are God has not given you a spirit of fear, but, of power of love and of a sound mind. God allowed you to see this thing for a purpose. Yes Demons do exist, But They can not harm us if we are born again. They will try to bring fear upon you because they know the power Christ has given us. So to stop whatever God is going to use you for....they attack with fear. AT THE NAME OF JESUS EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW, I will be praying for you. If you do not know Jesus please consider it. I have had experience with the occult, and dealt with those who were seeking freedom, So my friend no you are not going crazy! People make fun because they do not understand, it is much easier to poke fun than to just so Ur I don't know.

Unfortunately there are many here who do not believe in such things as what you saw as they have not experienced anything like it themselves. Either that, or they are closed-minded and think you belong in a rubber room.

From my former experiences in the Occult, you may indeed have seen something demonic, especially with the feelings it generated.

If you are a Christian, if it happens again, command it to leave in the name of Jesus Christ, and it will obey you. If you are not, you might ask someone who is a Christian to go with you, both as a witness, and as protection, as they can command it to leave in Jesus' name and it will have to obey them.

It wasnt a demon my friend. If it was and you could see it you'd have to be dead and obviously your not. Probably just your mind playing tricks. If you watched a horror movie recently it was more than likely your mind making it up after seeing a dog. You m-i-l probably just didn't notice it. Nothing to worry about really
