No, but banning oil, money, and government probably would.

The media can sell the story better by making us believe that religion is the motivation for war. The real issue is one of "have nots" being jealous of the "haves", and the "haves" putting the "have nots" back in their places.

No. Banning religion would not help.
Come on! Let's be realistic. Do you really believe that if there had never been any religions in the world that there would not have been war, famine, evil deeds, murders, etc throughout history?

Humans always have, and always will do evil things. Religion is not to blame. Many times evil things have been done in the name of religion, but in fact there was some other goal and religion was just being used as an excuse.

I think a sound argument can be made (from a secular perspective) to suggest that without religion the history of the world would be much, much worse and more violent.

If there was no religion, the USA would never have been in a single war.

After all, the Revolutionary war about relig....oh wait, that one was about taxation and the desire to be a free nation.

Then it was the War of 1812 that was about reli... oops. That was a war about land in the south. So ignore it.

It was the Spanish/American war that was fought over relig....what do you mean that was a border war with Mexico and not about....

The Civil War, that one was certain about....states rights and slavery. OK

World War 1 was about relig....oh, that was about land in Europe

World War 2 was the one about religion, right? What do you mean, it was about land counquest and an attack on America?

Then it was Korea that was about reli....oh, that was another stop an invader wanting land war.

How about Vietnam. All they guys who went and fought there were because of their belief in relig....what do you mean, no. That was another land grab war.

Maybe I should revise my original statement. I am having a hard time finding proof that religion was the cause for ANY of the wars that have been fought by America.

Same is true of the majority of the other wars in history. Religion has been responsible for very very few of them.

Hi bizz....'No'...Stopping greed and wanting more 'political power' might eliminate most wars but not religion. I know what you are saying and religion has it's factors on the issue but in my opinion 'greed' and 'power' have the upper hand so do speak. Sometimes I feel that humans just use religion as an excuse to start conflicts or wars but the real reason is greed and having power over all. Have a great day!

It seems that way at first glance, but in most cases
it would start wars, as people would fight fiercely for some ideas in their heads that they learned are worth dying for.
Separation of church and state is the way to go.
In places where religious symbols are causing hostile encounters, maybe the symbols should be banned in public buildings, such as the way they're doing in France by banning the burkas on women's heads in the schools.
That seems to be an infringement on freedom to me. People should be able to tie bells to their **** and jingle around in the park if that's their belief, as long as some anti education/anti-science sect doesn't get power of the gov't. (We're almost there with GW), we don't need to ban religion.

religion is not the cause of war. The cause of war is greed, the lust for power and ethnocentrism. Hitler wanted everything so he made wars to get everything. The roman empire got too greedy and large, that is the reason for thier fall. They could not hold all of it together. Most genocides are caused by one side thinking they are better then the other. Darfur genocide is happening now because of that thought. Japan wanted more land and to expand thier empire in WWII (greed). The Russian imperialism erra they expanded to to the need for land wars were needed for that.

No. Banning religion isn't the answer. The eradication of religion will stop most wars. However this is something that can't be forced on people. As frustrating as religion can be, its better to deal with the religionists than have a government that outlaws certain beliefs.

Everyone has free will because God gave it to us. Supressing our free will would not solve wars, it would increase wars. Religion banning will occur, though, because people will think that will solve everything. But in reality, that will be the cause of total corruotion and the end of the world. Already, persecution is occuring.
