OH that is so nice you gave him a home. It will take time for him to realize he is in a new 'pack' . Like in the wild ( like wolves and coyote packs) they assume a role. Right now he is submissive and afraid since he doesnt know you all. If you want to train him, get a book on dog behavior which explains how the alpha male of the pack does everything first ( like eat) so you do not want your dog to be alpha. You or your father or mother has to be alpha. You walk in the door before the dog etc. Lots of little things like that. But for now just give him a lot of love and provide a quiet enviornment where there is not too much stimulation. In other words go sit near his kennel and talk to him softly. Take him to the 'bathroom' often. Dont let anyone yell at him if he has an accident on the floor. If you just imagine how you would feel ifyou were suddenly put in a strange place you will do fine helping him. Try some plain treats like a small bite of baked chicken or small bit of scrambled egg or baked potato ( pure food which wont hurt him) I am glad you will spend time with him

Be patient and give the dogs some time. He's in a new place with new smells and is surrounded by new two-leggers . . . Imagine yourself in his hide?

You might also walk the dog around the house and the yard . . . help him to get to know the area . . .

Make his first few days as stress free as possible. As the dog gets used to his new surroundings he will naturally begin to interact with it, and that includes the other family members . . .

i'm a mom of three ladies, a protracted time 4, 2 and 11 months. i know for me is replaced into plenty extra handy to take them out as infants (under 24 months). considered one of my first journeys out after my final daughter replaced into to get a pedicure, i think of she replaced right into a pair of week old (the different 2 have been in daycare). On weekends, I infrequently go away the abode with all 3 in tow. unavoidably between the older 2 will throw a slot in public, so I attempt to no longer even positioned them interior the situation. If I do go out I take the toddler and between the older ones. i can in lots of circumstances get what i desire performed that way. day by day, nevertheless, I in simple terms make time in my time table after artwork to get my procuring performed so i do no longer could take the infants. Our super try would be this wintry climate, as quickly as wechronic or fly all 3 to Boston for my sister's wedding ceremony.

you can buy treats and cheese for him but give it time he wont just get used to you the first few days i got my dog and she really liked the big mirror because when she looked into the mirrorr she saw herself (she thought it was her brother) but go buy a toy or something and make the dog trust you bacause he doesnt really know you yet so take a treat and hold it in your hand and see if he comes and takes it from you thats a start if he does that means he is starting to trust you .. and every day play with him more and more and when you see he trusts you more he will become more comfortable

hope it helps !

I would advise having the family play with him and give him occasional treats. However it will take time for you dog to get well acquanted with you. It took my new puppy about a week to get acquainted with me(when his personality came out). But with an older dog I would assume it might take longer. Just treat it with love and care and the rest will eventually follow.

try giving him his space , but not too much make sure u keep an eye on him , see if he wants to play , or even maybe go for a walk , but dont force him to do anything , as far as the food , have you tried a different type of food? maybe thats the problem. if all else fails maybe take him to a vet make sure everything is okay. Good Luck

Give him a chance, it can take up to 2 weeks sometimes if you are doing a good job of making him feel comfortable, for them to feel happy and content and that they are finally at home.

your just going to have to speak to him in a soothing voice. also, make sure you give him a lot of attention, even if it's just trying to coach him out of his kennel. as far as eating, just keep giving him the food and then give him plenty of space. sometimes they won't eat if they're scared.
