Find a way to put the "useless" to good use. Remember, one human's meat and bread is another's poison and vice versa. What may be useless to you may be crucial to other people, and what may be garbage to them might have some value for someone else.

In shorter words: Share what you know. Talk with people. It doesn't have to be here on Answers or even anywhere online, there are support groups out there and most full bookstores do carry a selection of blank-paged *journals* too.

Talk. Write. Express. Share.

And eventually, in time, the bad memories *will* have less of an emotional sting to them, for much the same reason meditation helps: you are putting words to a feeling, which involves not only more of your brain, but more of your *higher*, human, thinking brain and less of your primitive, limbic-system lizard-brain. And this is important because the *nature* of bad, traumatic memories is such that unless they *do* get out of your system in some safe way....the brain chemistry will pile up until it actively *damages* your primitive, lower-brain, emotional functions, which in turn makes the emotional side of things worse.

Really, I know this because I've been there, and in spite of *years* of my best efforts I am still stuck *doing that*.

Email me if you'd like to know more....and thank you for your time! ^_^ You are strong, you are worthy and you will make it. Good luck to you!

Dang! If I was to clear my mind of useless thoughts, I'd probably be considered "brain dead!". But if your'e having racing thoughts, could be a sign of anxiety/depression. I have it, went to general practioner, got meds, doing fine! But if theyr'e randomly popping up once in awhile, but bothersome, try and figure out what's going on. Are the bad memories so awful that you need to speak to a counselor of some sort? Or they memories of a recent bad break up, that haven't yet been replaced by a new relationship? Trivial thoughts just let us be reminded that we are alive and are thinkin'. We subconsciously try to reason, figure out stuff. We sometimes find ourselves rehashing over a bad or embarassing moment till it drives us a little kooky! And the useless info, what do you mean. Like when your busy doing bills and then remember you hid a Snickers in the freezer two weeks ago?

I have that problem...Where things pop in your head when you want to concentrate on other stuff. I went to talk to a therapist about getting things out of my head, because I couldn't concentrate at work or school.

I was told to acknowledge the thought and let it go.

Here is how:

First, if it is an honest thought, like remembering an appointment or paying a bill and you are concentrating on something think the word "Quiet", because you know it is there and will take care of it later.

Second, if it is remembering past crap and has nothing to do with your current stuff, or stuff you want to forget at that moment (you can't forget everything or push it out of your mind like it never happened), think the word "Talk" because that is all it is: TALK IN YOUR HEAD.

You will feel good and it will go away because you acknowledged it.
....I know it sounds silly but it does work.

No, there is no way to forget bad thoughts. But, from experience, I have found that these bad thoughts can be helpful throughout life.

You remember how bad things were, so you try so hard to make them good. And when you do, you look back and feel so proud of yourself for accomplishing so much, even though bad things happened to you. You feel so proud that you did not sit back and do nothing about it, but that you were strong, confident, and moved on.

If you never had any bad memories, you would not know how to appreciate the good ones. We all have bad memories. It's how we handle them, that makes us who we are.

The answer is carbon monoxide. Like breathe into a paper bag like they do for panic attack . Try it it works. Or try using a gas stove at home and close the house down. The exhaust gasses are high in monoxide. In the winter you can clear your mind out for all year just heat the house with the gas oven on. Who needs a doctor when you can use a gas stove in a trailer park.
