I'm thinking of starting my own sandwich round in my local town. How much, on average, do you spend each week on lunch whilst at work? I will be providing a filled roll (with a variety of fillings to choose from), a canned drink and a packet of crisps for £2.50. Do you think this reasonable?

I take my own lunch but I'd say 2.50 is a great price, it's lower than a Boots meal deal!
You may want to include a number of different options though, like instead of a soft drink, a juice or bottle of water, and instead of crisps maybe a cereal/ cake bar. this will enable you to target a wider audience who perhaps want to opt for a healthier lunch.
Maybe also offer promotional deals, eg. place an order for 4 lunches, get 1 free.
good luck!

I make my own lunch. But £2.50 for a roll, a drink and a packet of crisps seems very good. The sandwich people at my work place sell the french bread rolls with fillings of your choice ranging in price from £2.25 - £2.50 and they do very well. Also don't Boots sometimes do a similar deal for £2.50

depends on where you will be located and what kind of jobs are near where you are located. If it's a suit area and you have sit-down you can add broth (side juice) and silverwear and a nice plate and charge more than you can if it were a jeans type place wherein no silverwear is used. It depends too on if you are thinking young people will be sending in line, or if they will be seated as soon as they arrive. Here a decent subway sandwich (with the works) a foot long would cost maybe $7.50 or more (no drink or chips), but a meal could cost maybe $10 or higher if in the city if it were served on a plate with fewer things on it, in smaller portion but there's a little privacy to chat and the meal looks enticing. One way you'd need more servers than the other. Do the five-year plan (sba.gov, takes about 3 months to prepare) and determine what you can afford so that you won't lose your shirt. Visit some sandwich shops and see what they are doing and how long they have been in biz and look around to see how they cut costs.
If I go for a meal like liver (I love liver) and onions and a scoop of potatoes (with a tad of gravy), it would cost me $11 or more.

£2.50 sounds very reasonable. In my supermarket sandwiches are more than that. Have you factored in all the costs such as wrappings and transport as well as the varying contents? In my local towns sandwich bars do a pretty good lunchtime trade, where the customer comes in so there are no delivery costs. I don't actually know if they provide a delivery service. But there is such a contract with primary schools, for a sandwich and a quarter litre carton of milk. Schools here don't include soft drinks or crisps as healthy eating.

2.50 is approximately 5 US dollars, correct? If so, I believe your prices are very reasonable. As a college student, I bring my lunch from home as often as possible. But when I do have spare cash for a lunch budget, I will have to spend anywhere from 5 to 10 dollars for a decent/filling meal. At most local sandwich places in my area, you can get the sandwich, chips, and a soda for about $7. That being said, you'd definitely have my business! =)

I know this is a little off base, as I am in Boston, MA but generally if you get a sandwich, drink and chips it will run you anywhere from $5- $9 depending on what exactly and where you're getting. Odds are, if you're on the cheaper end, the sandwich is boring, not too good or just small. So if you're making good quality food for that price, you should be doing well for yourself!

Maybe I'm strange, but I always made my own food, or ate leftovers. The local taco truck sells huge food for about $4.
