I always send a card or gift basket to the ACLU when I'm in that situation

I'm not even atheist and I want to go put my head in the oven. Why do non atheists think they know so much about what upsets atheists? being thankful with no one to thank? Bananas as worst nightmare? My money's on mans inhumaity to man or something a bit more logical.

WTF indeed!

((((((((Laptop Jesus))))))))

What is WRONG with people who think things like that?

Feelings of thankfulness (appreciation) don't have to be directed at all, unless one WANTS to direct them. In which case, I think it makes more sense to thank the *responsible party* for stuff - like the farmers for the grain, and the nice people for being nice, and so on.

Personally, I LOVE Laptop's answer, and I'm gong to start doing that - I'm already a dues-paying member, but the ACLU could stand to get little "thank you" gifts throughout the year.

Good Gaia. This may have made people say "Good Lord," but surely not in the way the author intended.

I just had a flash in my head, remembering last Thanksgiving. An atheist guest from Japan who was celebrating her first Thanksgiving with us asked who she thanks; my wife, also atheist and foreign-born, replied, "the cooks." Which were me and my brother. We liked that philosophy.

There's always someone to thank--your boss for hiring you, your parents for making you so you could see this beautiful day, yourself for working so hard!

Oh yeah, that's horrible. I'm so distraught that I can't thank "god" for anything. That's the worst thing in the world. Why did you have to bring this up? I try so hard not to think about this horrible thing...I'm gonna go kill myself now. :)

Yeah, I know, I saw that too! Hilarious! I have plenty of people to be thankful to, right here on Earth, in the here and now. It's SO much more rewarding than waiting until after I'm dead!

The saddest thing is being given the greatest gift in the world and not accepting it. And I don't care who gives me thumbs down, I don't care who laughs at me, none of you who ridicule Christians bother me in the slightest. I am secure in my walk with Jesus. Why should I be bothered by things of this world? True joy only comes from knowing Him!

Time and time again theists manage to completely misunderstand the atheist mindset. What is UP with that?

- you have to worship something
- deep down you believe
the list goes on.

Is it so hard to put yourself in the mind of the other?

Who said that? We all know the worst moment for an atheist is when they first encounter a banana.

what a nonsensical statement.
it must be a common sentiment amongst the truly confused.
"The worst moment for the atheist is when he is really thankful and has nobody to thank."
